WWE Battleground 2015: Revised Best Finishes for Each Match on the Card

Aaron BowerJul 13, 2015

WWE Battleground will offer plenty in the way of excitement and drama all across the card.

As well as the much-anticipated bout for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship between Seth Rollins and Brock Lesnar, there are plenty of interesting fights all the way down the show.

Finding out the best way to finish those matches ahead of SummerSlam is key to ensure that interest remains high before one of the biggest shows of the year, and there are several options to consider for all bouts.

Here are the best ways to finish the five scheduled bouts at Battleground.

The Prime Time Players vs. The New Day

1 of 5

The new WWE tag team champions will defend their titles for the first time at Battleground this weekend, with the direction of the tag division somewhat up in the air.

As much as The New Day's initial success was a surprise and a bit of a swerve, the fact that it dropped the belts was also a bit of a shock.

But Darren Young and Titus O'Neil deserve a run with the titles now, which is why a victory for them seems like the most likely outcome at Battleground.

And given everything else that's going on at Battleground, it won't be too eventful or controversial. But that's no bad thing; a clean win for The Prime Time Players after another solid tag match is a simple option for WWE to take, but it's the best finish in this instance.

The biggest question after that is who will step up next to challenge O'Neil and Young, of course.

Ryback vs. Big Show vs. The Miz

2 of 5

Ryback's reign as intercontinental champion doesn't really feel like it's taken off yet, in truth.

That's partly because his victory at Elimination Chamber was a major shock and that he's still fighting to get over as a credible champion, but the caliber of opponent facing him is also a factor.

Big Show and The Miz don't really feel like two guys who will push Ryback to the next level, but in the interim, Ryback has to beat them.

It's taken a while for Ryback to be given a shot with a major championship, and he should be trusted to have a solid run over the summer months with the IC title.

In terms of the finish here, the smartest option would be for Ryback to nail the win by beating Big Show. That means The Miz, who is the more credible challenger of the two, would not suffer a pinfall defeat, giving him an option to go again at SummerSlam.

Roman Reigns vs. Bray Wyatt

3 of 5

Battleground is an important night for many of WWE's top stars, but there is perhaps nobody under as much pressure as Bray Wyatt.

Since losing to The Undertaker at WrestleMania, things have limped along very slowly for The Eater of Worlds.

Some confusing feuds and disappointing results have left him with plenty of work to do to fight his way back toward the main event scene, but his feud with Roman Reigns could be the spark he needs.

It's likely they will both meet again at SummerSlam, given the early signs this rivalry has provided, and in terms of the finish here, WWE needs to get Wyatt's momentum back up and running.

Another controversial loss for Reigns would keep the rivalry going into SummerSlam with plenty of intrigue and interest, so Wyatt should steal a win here which, in the grand scheme of his WWE career, could turn out to be one of his biggest yet.

John Cena vs. Kevin Owens

4 of 5

Whereas Roman Reigns and Bray Wyatt are just starting out in their rivalry at Battleground, the forthcoming pay-per-view will be the final meeting for John Cena and Kevin Owens.

Cena and Owens have produced two blockbuster matches at Elimination Chamber and Money in the Bank. With the score tied up at one win each, this will be the defining meeting of these two heavyweights.

But who wins, and how is the curtain best brought down on one of the standout feuds of the year?

Cena has done a great job of elevating the United States Championship, but this seems like the right time for him to step aside and let one of the hottest prospects in the company take over as champ.

There should be no level of controversy involved, despite it's likely giving Owens a stack of heel heat. He doesn't need that cheap heat; he can work a crowd all by his own without controversial victories.

He should win clean, just like he did at Elimination Chamber. It would cause even more shock and gasps if Cena has been beaten cleanly twice in three shows, as well as underline how serious WWE is about Owens.

Seth Rollins vs. Brock Lesnar

5 of 5

Out of all the matches at Battleground, it's the main event which offers the most options in terms of finishes, which in itself is an exciting prospect.

Either Seth Rollins or Brock Lesnar could realistically come out on top at Battleground and emerge as the WWE world heavyweight champion, but there is of course a third option to throw in the mix.

That involved Sheamus, the man who won the Money in the Bank briefcase just a few weeks ago.

Lesnar should come out on top in a brutal and intense battle that involves the natural interference from J&J Security, Triple H and Kane. That numbers game will ensure Rollins gets the necessary help he appears to need, but he still won't get the job done.

That will infuriate The Authority in the days after Battleground and set up Rollins against Triple H at SummerSlam, but before all that, Lesnar will have already dropped the WWE World Heavyweight Championship.

He'll be out on his feet after just about surviving the beating from The Authority, so cue Sheamus, who would run down and once again steal the title from Lesnar.

It would be a great swerve and a fantastic finish to set things up for SummerSlam.
