Lakers Reportedly Discussing Andrew Wiggins Trade as Heat Eye Rui, Dalton Knecht

Andrew PetersJun 25, 2025

The Los Angeles Lakers reportedly are discussing trading for a veteran wing to pair alongside LeBron James and Luka Dončić.

Per ClutchPoints' Anthony Irwin, the Lakers are in talks with the Miami Heat about a trade involving Andrew Wiggins. Irwin added that Miami is interested in Rui Hachimura and "would push" for second-year player Dalton Knecht.

The Heat have reportedly been shopping Wiggins ahead of the draft, along with their 20th pick in the first round. The team was in the mix for Kevin Durant before he was traded to the Houston Rockets, and The Miami Herald's Barry Jackson and Anthony Chiang reported that Wiggins was included in Miami's offer to the Phoenix Suns.

Wiggins was traded to the Heat in February when Miami sent disgruntled star Jimmy Butler to the Golden State Warriors. Wiggins ended up having a productive year with the Heat, putting up 19 points per game in 17 contests and willing the team to the playoffs.

Though the 30-year-old Wiggins might be a bit past his prime, he's still capable of being a solid third option, especially for a team that already has two stars on its roster.

Hachimura had a productive year, putting up 13.1 points and 5.0 rebounds per game and stepping into a starting role after coming off the bench for much of the 2023-24 season. He also proved to be a reliable shooter, hitting 41 percent of his shots from deep.

As good as Hachimura has been in recent years, he alone might not be enough to land Wiggins. The Lakers could sweeten the deal by including Knecht.

A first-round draft pick out of Tennessee last season, Knecht put together a strong rookie season. He averaged 9.1 points and shot 37.6 percent from deep while playing just 19.2 minutes per game. He showcased his scoring ability on numerous occasions, including a 37-point outing in November.

Not to mention, Knecht is still on an affordable rookie contract.

If Los Angeles isn't willing to include either Hachimura, Knecht or another player, it would likely need to include future picks in the deal.
