NBA Free Agents 2015: Latest Rumors and Predictions for Available Veterans
The big-ticket names are off the market, but the 2015 NBA free-agency period continues to roll along with plenty of productive veterans still available.
At this point, we won't see any more flashy contracts or headline-generating signings, but we will continue to see teams acquire players who will have vital roles in a rotation, add depth at a position and provide a solid presence in the locker room. All of those aspects are important if a team wants to create a winning atmosphere, which is why certain remaining free-agent veterans are coveted by several teams.
As we know, when a team shows interest in an available player, a rumor generally results. Let's take a look at some buzz surrounding a few free agents and predict where they will ultimately call home this upcoming season.
Kevin Seraphin

Kevin Seraphin began to generate plenty of interest on the open market following the signings of LaMarcus Aldridge and DeAndre Jordan. With those two big men off the market, Seraphin became an instant Plan B for several franchises.
While the 6'10", 278-pound center may not have starting quality, he'll serve nicely in a frontcourt rotation as a player who is capable of keeping his team afloat while allowing the starter to take a breather. Last season, Seraphin averaged 6.6 points and 3.6 rebounds while shooting 51.3 percent from the floor in 15.6 minutes per game for the Washington Wizards.
Washington is interested in bringing the center back into the fold this year, but there are other interested parties, according to a tweet from Marc J. Spears of Yahoo Sports:
Which team is likeliest to land Seraphin's services this season?
A report from July 3 alluded to the Wizards potentially trading Nene. The need for Seraphin would be strong if that came to fruition. However, nothing has transpired since, leaving Washington with a crowded frontcourt. The Los Angeles Lakers acquired Roy Hibbert and Brandon Bass, lessening their need for more big men. Then we have the Dallas Mavericks.
Dallas was spurned by Jordan, who decided not to go through with his verbal commitment and re-signed with the Los Angeles Clippers instead. Amar'e Stoudemire departed from the team, agreeing to a contract with the Miami Heat. Needless to say, the Mavericks are a bit thin up front. That makes them the favorites to acquire Seraphin.
Prediction: Seraphin signs with Dallas
Andrea Bargnani

Former No. 1 overall selection Andrea Bargnani has been plagued by injuries in recent years, decreasing his value significantly after he showed some promise early in his career. He's coming off a campaign in which he played a career-low 29 games for the New York Knicks, but he did play well late in the season, averaging 14.8 points and 4.4 rebounds while shooting 45.4 percent from the floor.
The 7'0" Bargnani can be an asset in a rotation for a team thin at center, but the risk of injury is likely a concern. That's probably the reason why Bargnani remains on the open market and has looked into several options, including playing overseas.
According to a tweet from ESPN's Marc Stein, however, the center may be staying in the NBA after all:
The Sacramento Kings are set at center with DeMarcus Cousins and defensive powerhouse Willie Cauley-Stein. However, the team could still use some additional depth and another scoring presence up front, making Bargnani appealing.
If the Kings can work out a contract that protects them against new injuries to Bargnani, it's likely they'll bring him aboard as a role player.
Prediction: Bargnani signs with Sacramento
Robbie Hummel

Small forward Robbie Hummel only has two years of experience in the NBA and is already 26 years of age, but he showed a fair amount of productivity in 45 appearances with the Minnesota Timberwolves last season, averaging 4.4 points and 3.0 rebounds while shooting 45.9 percent from the floor in 16.5 minutes per game. He's now being pursued by several teams in free agency.
Darren Wolfson of 1500ESPN tweeted the squads interested in acquiring Hummel's services:
Looking at the rosters of the interested teams, it's easy to see why the Portland Trail Blazers and Denver Nuggets are showing the most interest in Hummel.
Rudy Gay already resides at the small forward position in Sacramento, and his presence will limit the amount of time Hummel would spend on the floor. The Cleveland Cavaliers need help at the position, but they may be more inclined to focus on re-singing J.R. Smith instead.
On the flip side, the Nuggets have some talent up front, but they do need more of a presence at small forward after trading Arron Afflalo to the Trail Blazers. That said, Portland has now lost Afflalo in free agency and is in the same boat. While Hummel isn't as talented of a swingman, he'll provide depth for a position that is thin for both squads.
When looking at both teams side by side, it's likely Hummel will see more action in Denver, as the team lacks a taller presence at the position. Hummel's 6'9" frame would be a very welcome addition.
Prediction: Hummel signs with Denver
