WWE Battleground 2015: Best Possible Finish for Each Contest
As the final show before SummerSlam, Battleground has to go off with a bang to keep interest high ahead of one of the biggest pay-per-view shows of the year.
The right results are imperative to ensure that fans are still buying into the product before SummerSlam, and as just as importantly, the overall finish is key to the success of Battleground.
Naturally, some matches will have clean finishes, and others will not, including the main event between Seth Rollins and Brock Lesnar.
Here is the best possible finish for each of the five matches currently scheduled for WWE Battleground on July 19.
The Prime Time Players vs. The New Day
1 of 5
Given how well The New Day had been performing as WWE tag team champions, it came as quite a surprise when The Prime Time Players dethroned them at Money in the Bank.
That said, Darren Young and Titus O'Neil were probably overdue for a stint with the titles, and they've done a decent enough job during the early days of their reign.
The inevitable rematch for The New Day is booked for Battleground, with both teams genuinely having a shot of winning.
However, despite The New Day clearly working well as a heel stable, this would not be the time for the champs to drop the belts. A clean victory for The Prime Time Players is the only way for them to strengthen their grip at the top of the division.
Ryback vs. The Miz vs. Big Show
2 of 5The Big Guy's reign as intercontinental champion still feels like it's in need of a shot in the arm at Battleground.
Sure, Ryback has stepped things up a notch or two since winning the strap at Elimination Chamber, but given the opponents who have tested him so far, things do feel like they're limping along for him.
No disrespect to Big Show or The Miz, but they just aren't in that credible bracket of challengers for the WWE Intercontinental Championship.
Therefore, Ryback must win here and move on to a fresh challenge. He needs another test, and neither Big Show nor The Miz is a realistic titleholder at the moment.
As for the finish, another clean win has to be the order of the day. If Ryback is to continue to grow as a credible champion, he needs another big, solid victory.
Roman Reigns vs. Bray Wyatt
3 of 5The big challenge of calling a good finish for Roman Reigns' bout against Bray Wyatt at Battleground is based on what lies ahead for the duo.
Are they locked in for another match at SummerSlam? They're two hugely talented stars who have big futures with WWE, and this could be the feud Wyatt needs to give his career a shot in the arm after losing to The Undertaker at WrestleMania.
If they are to go around again (and the early signs from their feud so far are good), then clearly a controversial finish would be ideal in this instance.
Wyatt is well-versed with controversial finishes, and Reigns has been on the end of a few so far as well.
It's all about weighing who needs the win more. Reigns is gradually moving on a steady path again after that hurried push, but Bray's picking up the win here just feels a bit more important.
Some outside interference or someone causing a distraction should enable Wyatt to pick up the victory.
Kevin Owens vs. John Cena
4 of 5It's perhaps the most eagerly anticipated fight of the entire night, and after the events that occurred at WWE's live event in Tokyo last week, we may have just received a major hint about what happens between John Cena and Kevin Owens at Battleground.
Finn Balor's win in Japan enables Owens to move forward without the NXT Championship, with a full switch to the main roster likely to happen following that defeat.
And after Owens and Cena have one win apiece in previous pay-per-views, the victor here will likely be the one who claims the final win in this most scintillating of rivalries.
Cena has done a great job of adding prestige, importance and relevance to the WWE United States Championship, but if he's going to drop the belt to anyone, then it has to be Owens.
He stunned the world when he beat Cena cleanly at Elimination Chamber, but a repeat here would be not as surprising.
Expect both men to push each other to the limit in a lengthy match, but the best finish here has to be a clean win for Owens, so he can be crowned the new United States champion.
Seth Rollins vs. Brock Lesnar
5 of 5Battleground's main event is a contest where literally anything could happen.
We could see face turns, we could see heel turns, and we could likely see a new WWE world heavyweight champion being crowned.
It's hard to imagine Brock Lesnar losing cleanly at the hands of Seth Rollins, which naturally opens the door for The Authority's numbers game to take over and enable Rollins to steal yet another victory.
However, there has to be a point where Rollins stops winning dirty, and Battleground could well be that point.
What would work well here is for Rollins to go off on a completely different tangent, and if Lesnar is to win, then interference from The Authority that costs Rollins would be a great swerve to finish the night off.
That would lead toward Rollins fighting Triple H at SummerSlam while also putting the belt back on Lesnar, who is majorly over at the moment.
Triple H and Kane should come down to look like they're going to save Rollins but actually lay him out and let Lesnar win.
The only danger with that plan is ensuring Lesnar doesn't turn heel in the process, as he really seems to be working as a babyface.
