Saturday Recap
No. 5 Clemson def. No. 4 Georgia Tech 9-4
Clemson is just a win away from its second conference championship in the last three years after downing the top seed on Saturday.
It was all Georgia Tech through the early stages as the Yellow Jackets scored a pair of runs in the first before Drew Rogers went yard in the second to make it 3-0.
Clemson answered in the third with an RBI single from Jarren Purify, followed by a grand slam from Jacob Jarrell to make it 5-3.
Georgia Tech cut into the lead with an RBI single from Will Baker in the fourth before three scoreless innings from both sides.
The Tigers added some insurance in the seventh on an RBI single from Cam Cannarella to make it 6-4. Clemson brought another run home later in the inning after the Yellow Jackets botched the throw to first on a double play attempt.
Clemson extended its lead in the eighth when TP Wentworth drove in a run with a double, and Collin Priest made it 9-4 with a solo homer in the ninth.
The five-run deficit proved to be too much for Georgia Tech.
Clemson looked like a team primed for a big postseason run in Saturday's win, and the Tigers will look to keep their momentum going into Sunday's championship game against either Florida State or North Carolina.
North Carolina 7, Florida State 5
Saturday's semifinal between North Carolina and Florida State had everything fans could have asked for in a late-inning thriller.
After a bit of a slow start, both teams got things going in the fourth inning. North Carolina’s Gavin Gallaher drove in a run with a single and Florida State got that run right back when Myles Bailey hit a solo home run in the bottom of the fourth.
North Carolina added a pair of runs in the top of the fifth, but the Seminoles once again responded. A bases-loaded walk drove in a run and Max Williams scored on a throwing error to tie things up.
After the Tar Heels’ defensive miscues, Luke Stevenson gave them some life on offense with a two-run home run in the sixth to retake the lead.
That lead didn’t last long as Florida State’s Alex Lodise drove in the tying run with a double in the bottom of the sixth.
After a few scoreless innings, the Tar Heels got in great position to take the lead in the top of the ninth after a bunt put runners on second and third with just one out. Kane Kepley made sure to capitalize on the moment, hitting a line drive to center field to bring both runners across and give North Carolina a 9-7 lead.
The Tar Heels had the chance to do damage after loading the bases, but Florida State got out of the inning unscathed. Ultimately, the two runs for North Carolina were good enough for the win as the Seminoles failed to cut into the lead in the bottom of the ninth.
With the win, North Carolina will now get a matchup with Clemson as it looks to win the ACC tournament for the first time since 2022.
