Friday Games

The Florida State bats came alive Friday afternoon as the Seminoles jumped on Duke's pitching early and didn't let up en route to a 14-7 victory.

First baseman Myles Bailey got things started with an RBI single in the first inning, and second baseman Drew Faurot plated another on a fielder's choice.

Duke tied it up in the second when FSU center fielder Max Williams lost a fly ball in the sun with two outs. Jaxson West got one of those runs back with a bomb to left center.

Then Florida State broke the game open with eight runs in the third. Bailey capped off the explosion with a homer to right. Designated hitter Brody DeLamielleure and ACC Player of the Year Alex Lodise each had extra-base hits during the hot stretch.

Duke didn't throw in the towel. Designated hitter Noah Murray hit a two-run in the fourth, and the Blue Devils made it a 12-6 game in the sixth before loading the bases with two outs. Ben Miller couldn't do any more damage, striking out to end the inning.

Florida State responded in kind by adding to its lead. In the seventh, Bailey went yard with a home run that traveled nearly 470 feet and bounced off the commercial building behind the right field concourse.

That was an emphatic finishing touch on a dominant offensive showing.

In the nightcap, UNC rallied late with five runs in the seventh and two more in the eighth en route to a 7-2 win over Boston College.

BC, the tournament's No. 14 seed, looked as if it could pull off the massive upset early. Patrick Roche's RBI double got Boston College on the board before Jack Toomey's RBI single made it 2-0.

Meanwhile, A.J. Colarusso was dominant on the mound, throwing six shutout innings to start the game. He pitched into the seventh and finished with nine strikeouts.

UNC's bats finally broke out late after Jackson Van De Brake's two-RBI double tied the game.

The Tar Heels then later scored the game-winning run on a wild pitch before Luke Stevenson and Lee Sowers hit RBI singles for a 5-2 edge.

Stevenson later hit a two-run homer in the eighth for a 7-2 lead.

UNC starting pitcher Jake Knapp moved to 12-0 on the season with a 2.17 ERA after throwing seven innings of two-run ball, striking out four while allowing five hits.
