NBA Teams Reportedly Expect Nets to 'Consolidate' Assets amid Draft, Trade Rumors
NBA teams expect the Brooklyn Nets to "consolidate" assets as the team operates "in the interest of present and future cap space," according to ESPN's Jeremy Woo.
The Nets fell to the No. 8 overall pick in the 2025 NBA draft following the lottery.
They also have the No. 19, No. 26 and No. 27 selections in the first round.
Rival teams also expect that Brooklyn will explore moving "one or both" of its picks in the 20s, per Woo.
The Nets have multiple options available if they want to combine some of their assets and make a move. With the lack of a true young star to build around, they're reportedly viewed as a candidate to trade up in the draft.
After Milwaukee Bucks superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo was revealed to be "open-minded" about his future outside the organization, Brian Lewis of the New York Post reported that Brooklyn "will be" one of the teams monitoring the situation.
The Nets finished at 26-56 in the regular season, marking their worst record since 2017.
While having the opportunity to draft several prospects in the first round of the 2025 draft is enticing for Brooklyn, combining assets and making a larger move is an option as well. After all, the Nets also have multiple first-round picks in 2027, 2029 and 2031.
As Brooklyn looks to take a step forward during its 2025-26 campaign, a trade involving its draft choices appears to be a possibility.
