Warriors' Steph Curry Wants 'Ride to Last as Long as Possible' with Butler, Draymond
Golden State Warriors star Stephen Curry is looking forward to remaining teammates with Draymond Green and Jimmy Butler following the team's recent playoff elimination.
"Our contracts -- me, Draymond, Steve, Jimmy -- are all two years [more]," Curry said, per ESPN's Ohm Youngmisuk. "And we want this ride to last as long as possible. But it's just about what does this team need for next year, answering those questions over the summer, everybody preparing themselves individually to get through another 82-game season hopefully with a little bit more of a comfort room down the stretch where we don't have to have a two-month gauntlet just to make the playoffs."
"I'm excited about it because there's clarity [to the top of the roster], although there are a lot of decisions that need to be made over the summer," he added.
While the Warriors' 2024-25 campaign came to an end with a five-game elimination at the hands of the Minnesota Timberwolves in the second round of the playoffs, their trio showed promise throughout the year.
Golden State acquired Butler in a blockbuster trade with the Miami Heat ahead of the Feb. 6 deadline, subsequently handing him a two-year extension worth $121 million that keeps him under contract through the 2026-27 season.
Butler fit in seamlessly alongside Curry and Green following the move. The Warriors owned a 22-5 record in the 27 regular-season games that all three players appeared in.
Golden State sat at 25-26 on the season prior to Butler's debut, but ended the year at No. 7 in the Western Conference standings with a 48-34 mark.
The trio also helped the team secure a first-round series victory over the Houston Rockets in seven games before Curry suffered a hamstring strain in Game 1 against Minnesota and was never able to make his return.
"Disappointed for sure," Curry said, via Youngmisuk. "We'll imagine and believe that we could have won everything had we been healthy. But you move on."
The two-time MVP is signed through the 2026-27 season after agreeing to a one-year extension in Aug. 2024, while Green is under contract through his 2025-26 campaign and has a $27.7 million player option for the 2026-27 season.
Now, the Warriors' three stars will look to go on a deeper playoff run following a full offseason to work together.
