Warriors' Steph Curry Out With Hamstring Injury vs. T-Wolves in NBA Playoffs Game 5

Joseph ZuckerMay 13, 2025

Golden State Warriors star Stephen Curry was officially ruled out for Wednesday's Game 5 of his team's second-round series against the Minnesota Timberwolves because of his hamstring injury.

Curry suffered the hamstring strain in Golden State's 99-88 win over the Timberwolves in Game 1 of the Western Conference semifinals. At the very least, he would be sidelined for multiple contests, and there were no guarantees he'd return for the series.

"This is new, and from all that I'm learning about how quickly you can get back, there has to be a healing process," the two-time MVP told reporters. "You can't accelerate it more than what it's telling you. So it'll be one of those, after a week, really reevaluating every day to understand when it's safe just to even think about playing, let alone how much can you push it."

The Athletic's Anthony Slater reported Curry worked out but "didn’t push it to full speed" prior to the Warriors' 102-97 loss in Game 3. While that was deemed "a notable advancement" in his recovery, his return date remained unknown.

ESPN's Shams Charania reported Friday during an appearance on The Pat McAfee Show that the star guard "could be back for Game 6 at the earliest."

A steady through line going back to the height of Golden State's dynastic run is that head coach Steve Kerr simply cannot find a way to replicate Curry's offensive impact wherever Steph is on the bench. The team has tried multiple different formulas, be it different lineup combinations or leaning on a singular talent such as Chris Paul or D'Angelo Russell.

During the 2024-25 regular season, the Warriors were 5.7 points per 100 possessions worse without Curry, per NBA.com.

Even at full strength, Golden State faced a serious challenge from the Timberwolves in the second round. Losing their best player turned the Warriors into the clear underdogs, and they will be eliminated if they can't find a way to win the next game.
