Arkansas Collective Reportedly Wants $200K from Madden Iamaleava After UCLA Transfer
Quarterback Madden Iamaleava never played a down for Arkansas before reports emerged that he decided to enter the transfer portal to follow his brother, Nico, to UCLA, and the SEC program's collective reportedly wants some of its NIL money back.
Pete Nakos of On 3 reported Wednesday that the Arkansas Edge collective is asking for approximately $200,000 back from the signal-caller for violating his agreement.
This comes after Arkansas athletic director Hunter Yuracheck released a statement Tuesday addressing potential agreement violations:
"I have spoken with the leadership team at Arkansas Edge and expressed my support in their pursuit to enforce their rights under any agreement violated by our student-athletes moving forward," he said. "We appreciate Edge's investment in our student-athletes and acknowledge the enforcement of these agreements is vital in our new world of college athletics. We look forward to continued dialogue with all parties in resolving these matters."
Amanda Christovich of Front Office Sports reported Arkansas Edge is attempting to enforce "buyout" clauses in the contracts it agreed to with Iamaleava and others.
However, Christovich noted the enforcement in today's college athletic world is trickier than at the professional level and talked to lawyers who said it partially depends on the specific language included in the deal.
It is another development, though, as the Iamaleava family continues to make headlines in the NIL era.
Nico Iamaleava ended up leaving Tennessee for the Bruins after reports of contract negotiations and a missed practice with the Volunteers.
"Man, listen, it's the state of college football," Tennessee head coach Josh Heupel said on The Vol Network radio broadcast (h/t Grant Ramey of On3). "At the end of the day, no one is ever bigger than the program. That includes me, too. We've got an opportunity. We've got a bunch of guys that will give their all for Tennessee.
"We move forward. Got a great group. Let's go compete."
As for Madden Iamaleava, he was a 4-star prospect and the No. 22 quarterback in the 2025 recruiting class, per 247Sports' composite rankings. He chose the Razorbacks but is now apparently headed to UCLA and following in his brother's footsteps.
Arkansas is reportedly fighting back and wants some money in return, so this likely isn't the last fans will hear of the situation.
