Thomas admitted after the win that he felt a sense of relief after ending his three-year drought without a victory and compared it to what Rory McIlroy experienced when he won the 2025 Masters Tournament last week to complete the career grand slam.
"It's obviously incredibly different from Rory's situation, but there is a little bit of relief there. … This was just the me of old. I was just really patient today," Thomas said, per Jason Sobel of SiriusXM.
After opening the RBC Heritage with a 10-under 61 in the first round, Thomas stayed hot throughout the tournament. He shot two-under 69 in both the second and third rounds before carding a three-under 68 in the final round on Sunday. However, Novak matched him with an overall score of -17 to force the playoff. Thomas managed to birdie the hole with an impressive putt to secure the dramatic victory:
The next tournament on the PGA Tour schedule is the Zurich Classic of New Orleans at TPC Louisiana, which begins on Thursday. Thomas will have the chance to win his first major since 2022 at the PGA Championship on May 15. He will be seeking his third career PGA Championship win.
