Ken Griffey Jr. Produces Viral Photos of Rory McIlroy's Win as Masters Photographer

Ken Griffey Jr. created plenty of iconic moments during his MLB career.

But he was the one capturing one Sunday during the final round of the Masters at Augusta National.

As Rory McIlroy sunk his final putt to defeat Justin Rose in the playoff and finally win his first green jacket, he fell to his knees in a combination of relief, joy and gratitude. It was one of those moments that make sports so special, and Griffey made sure it will live forever by taking a perfectly timed picture.

While he may not have made as much news as McIlroy, Griffey generated plenty of headlines as a credentialed photographer at the Masters.

He took full advantage of his opportunity as well with a number of impressive pictures, including the viral one of McIlroy's euphoric celebration.

"Realistically, I'm the low man on the totem pole," Griffey said Saturday when discussing his venture into sports photography, per James Colgan of Golf.com. "I'm still picking it up. If you're not willing to learn, then your pictures aren't going to get any better."

Griffey grew accustomed to being on the other side of the camera lens during his baseball career, but he said he still felt nervous and outside of his comfort zone working alongside so many proven photographers on the biggest stage in golf.

"It doesn't matter your status in life, if it's something you don't do professionally and everybody here is a professional, you're still nervous to walk in the room," Griffey said. "How would these guys feel if we all got into a batting cage, and I was sitting there critiquing them? It's the same thing."

The Kid has been a credential photographer at MLB, NFL and MLS games, as well as IndyCar races. However, the Masters is one of the most prestigious events in all of sports and one where pictures and videos are critical to capturing the emotions of so many moments.

And there was no shortage of roller-coaster moments during McIlroy's final round, as he went from leading to trailing to leading again to losing a seemingly insurmountable lead to missing a short putt that would have won the green jacket before the playoff to bouncing back and completing the career Grand Slam in the playoff hole.

Griffey may be a Hall of Famer with 13 All-Star selections, 10 Gold Gloves, seven Silver Sluggers and 630 career home runs, but he and so many others were simply enthralled by golf history on Sunday.

Only he was there to capture it as well.
