NBA Trade Rumors: Latest Buzz Surrounding Chris Paul, Roy Hibbert and More
The NBA's July Free-Agent Moratorium concluded Thursday morning at 12:01 a.m. ET, which opened the floodgates for teams to execute their previously agreed upon contracts.
DeAndre Jordan's change of heart and subsequent signing with the Los Angeles Clippers, after agreeing to a deal with the Dallas Mavericks, was the big news of yesterday.
Will Jordan's new deal cause a ripple effect through the league? We will see.
But for now, let's discuss some of the biggest trade rumors that have surfaced recently.
Is Chris Paul a Trade Piece?
Wait, what?
Paul, arguably the best all-around point guard in the NBA right now, should be untouchable as the Clippers' franchise centerpiece. But in light of the Jordan fiasco, ESPN's Michael Eaves tweeted a juicy tidbit Wednesday regarding the Clippers center and his coexistence with Paul.
Dan Fegan, Jordan's agent, apparently wasn't too keen on CP3 returning to Los Angeles if the big man was to be re-signed by the Clippers, and he placed an ultimatum on the team's head coach, Doc Rivers.
Jordan and Paul have had their problems in the past. According to Kevin Arnovitz of ESPN, "[Jordan] was tired of Paul's constant barking and petty gestures, like distributing high-fives to the three other guys on the floor following a timeout but somehow freezing out Jordan."
But despite the conflict between the two, it made little sense for Jordan's agent to demand the Clippers trade away the best playmaker in the NBA. Jordan's offensive game is not very developed and has been greatly aided by the passing and pick-and-roll maneuvering of Paul.
So was Fegan's ultimatum legitimate, or just a ploy to get the team more cognizant of Paul's actions toward Jordan in the event the big man returned? Or maybe just a way to convince the Clippers he really wanted his client to play in Dallas?
Considering the buzz around a possible CP3 trade has been nonexistent since DJ's signing, expect the superstar point guard to stay and try to work things out with Jordan.
Is Roy Hibbert Still Going to the Lakers?
Speaking of the Jordan situation, that signing could also have some other ramifications, per a report from CBS Sports' Ken Berger before the big man signed with the Clippers.
Now that Jordan isn't going to play for the Mavericks, the center situation in Big D is dire. According to RotoWorld, Dallas has only two guys at the 5 now: Bernard James and second-round draft pick Satnam Singh Bhamara.
An upgrade at that position is badly needed.
Is there a chance the Indiana Pacers go back on their Roy Hibbert trade agreement with the Los Angeles Lakers?

Indiana and Los Angeles had never agreed on which players or draft picks would be involved in the swap. The Mavericks might be willing to give up a better package in return for Hibbert, now that their need for him is so huge. This could tempt the Pacers.
If the final day of the July Moratorium is any indication, pretty much anything can happen here.
Where Will Brendan Haywood Go?
The Cleveland Cavaliers' Brendan Haywood has been shopped around the league ever since the free-agency period started July 1. His contract is very buyer-friendly, as NBC Sports' Kurt Helin explains.
There's no surprise here, but recent news from Sam Amico of Fox Sports reports the Cavs are still talking with a large contingent of squads that are interested in taking on Haywood's contract via trade to clear up cap space.
Whatever the Cavaliers do with the veteran center, it would probably involve receiving a perimeter player in return. They have Kevin Love, Tristan Thompson, Timofey Mozgov and Anderson Varejao (assuming he isn't also traded) as their big men for next season, which is a great rotation.
However, their guard depth is nothing special.
Cleveland.com's Chris Fedor outlined possible trade scenarios with 10 teams using Haywood's contract as bait from the Cavs side. Most of them resulted in Cleveland gaining perimeter depth.
| Kevin Martin from Minnesota Timberwolves | Haywood |
| Jamal Crawford from Los Angeles Clippers | Haywood |
| Trevor Ariza and Nick Johnson from Houston Rockets | Haywood |
| Joe Johnson from the Brooklyn Nets | Haywood/Anderson Varejao |
| Danilo Gallinari from the Brooklyn Nets | Haywood |
| Tyreke Evans from the New Orleans Pelicans | Haywood |
| Terrence Ross and Patrick Patterson from the Toronto Raptors | Haywood |
| Nick Young, Ryan Kelly and Robert Sacre from the Los Angeles Lakers | Haywood |
| Markieff Morris from the Phoenix Suns | Haywood |
| Marvin Williams from the Charlotte Hornets | Haywood |
Of those proposed deals, the one with the Houston Rockets seems the most appealing for Cleveland.

Trevor Ariza is a three-and-D monster, and Nick Johnson has some potential down the line as a solid backup guard. They could both fit in very well with the Cavs.
However, the Rockets are unlikely to pull on this, as they're probably looking to stand pat at this point after missing out on the top free agents.
Look for the Cavs to find a buyer for Haywood's contract soon. Then the team acquiring him can dump him and quickly use its newfound cap room to find available free agents.
