Rory McIlroy Says 'I Gotta Go Get a Green Jacket' in Viral Video After Masters Win
After Rory McIlroy secured his first-ever Masters win and etched his name in history as just the sixth golfer to complete the career Grand Slam, he dropped the ultimate line on his ceremonial walk to the clubhouse:
"I gotta go get a Green Jacket," McIlroy said.
The 35-year-old entered Sunday’s final round at 12-under, two strokes ahead of Bryson DeChambeau, and extended his lead to four shots after the front nine. But things got shaky on the back: he double-bogeyed the par-5 13th after bogeying 11 and 14, allowing the field to close the gap.
Still, McIlroy battled back to force a playoff hole with Justin Rose—then sealed the deal by birdieing the first playoff hole to finish 11-under and finally claim his first Green Jacket.
"This is my 17th time here, and I started to wonder if it would ever be my time," McIlroy said after his win, per the PGA Tour. "I'm just absolutely honored and thrilled, and so proud to be able to call myself a Masters champion ... A moment like that makes all the years and all the close calls worth it."
Now a five-time major winner, Rory McIlroy adds the Masters to his resume after previous victories at the 2011 U.S. Open, 2012 PGA Championship, 2014 Open Championship and 2014 PGA Championship. With the win, he joins an elite group of Grand Slam champions—Tiger Woods, Gene Sarazen, Ben Hogan, Gary Player and Jack Nicklaus.
