Rory McIlroy Becomes 6th Golfer to Earn Career Grand Slam After 2025 Masters Win
Rory McIlroy's win at the 2025 Masters Tournament etched his name among the greatest in the history of the sport.
McIlroy is now the sixth golfer ever to win all four majors and achieve the career Grand Slam, joining Gene Sarazen, Ben Hogan, Gary Player, Jack Nicklaus and Tiger Woods.
McIlroy entered Sunday's final round in the lead, but he almost let the green jacket slip from his grasp multiple times throughout an up-and-down day. He opened the round with a double bogey on the first hole, and he had another on the 13th. While he managed six birdies, he bogeyed the 18th hole to fall into a tie with Justin Rose, forcing a one-shot playoff.
While Rose put on some early pressure with a pair of impressive shots, McIlroy out-drove him and then got his ball closer to the hole on his approach. Rose recorded even par on the playoff hole, but McIlroy recorded a birdie to secure his first career Masters title.
McIlroy fell to his knees in an emotional celebration. He embraced his longtime caddie, Harry Diamond, before seeking out his wife, Erica, and daughter, Poppy. The crowd at Augusta National cheered him on as he shared a special moment with his family.
At 35 years old, McIlroy is far from the end of his already legendary career. He is a five-time major champion, and he will undoubtedly have the chance to add to his trophy case over the next few years.
McIlroy's next opportunity for a major win will be at the PGA Championship, which commences on May 15.
