Masters Prize Money 2025, Final Leaderboard, Total Purse and Payouts

Kristopher KnoxApr 13, 2025

The 89th edition of The Masters is in the books, and Rory McIlroy is finally in possession of a Green Jacket. Winning the tournament meant navigating some significant ups and downs on Sunday, plus a one-hole playoff with Justin Rose, but McIlroy finally has finally won the one major that has eluded him.

The beautiful spring backdrop of Augusta National Golf Course and the promise of elite-level competition always provide a draw to fans. McIlroy's chase for a place in history only added to the final day's allure.

This year's Masters brought with it a record prize purse, of which McIlroy will pocket $4.2 million.

Here, you'll find a look at the final leaderboard, full payout information and a quick look at how Sunday's action unfolded.

The Masters - Final Round

Winning The Masters gives a golfer a special place in history—along with other perks. In addition to getting the Green Jacket and hoisting The Masters Trophy, as noted by Michael Weston of Golf Monthly, champions get a gold medal, a spot in The Masters Club, a lifetime exemption in the tournament and a five-year exemption into the PGA Championship, Open Championship and U.S. Open.

Winning The Masters also comes with a massive payday. We learned on Saturday that this year's payout would be a record high.

As posted by Golf Channel's Rex Hoggard on X, the total 2025 payout was increased to $21 million, while the first-place payout was increased to $4.2 million:

While the prize money might not be substantially higher than last year's payouts—$20 million total, $3.6 million to the winner—it represents a huge increase over where things were just a few years ago.

As ESPN's Mark Schlabach noted last year, the payout was only $15 million overall with $2.7 million to the winner in 2022.

Sunday Recap

The Masters - Final Round
Justin Rose

Heading into Sunday's final round, McIlroy appeared to have a great chance to finally complete his career grand slam. After back-to-back rounds of 66, he stood at -12 and had a two-stroke lead over Bryson DeChambeau, and it seemed that a duel between the two could be imminent.

Then, some fantastic runs by Justin Rose and Ludvig Åberg—and a few rough holes by McIlroy—made things extremely interesting.

At one point, McIlroy had a four-stroke lead over the field, but a double-bogey on the 13th hole and a bogey on the 14th dropped him into a three-way tie with Rose and Åberg.

Rose, who led through the first two days, surged late with his own round of 66 on Sunday and grabbed a share of the lead with a birdie on his final hole.

Åberg also faded down the stretch on Sunday, finishing at 6 under for the tournament. Reigning Scottie Scheffler, meanwhile, shot three under on Sunday to finish with a solid -8 showing for the weekend.

All eyes, however, were on Rose and McIlroy, who went to a playoff after McIlroy failed to make par on the final hole. He had regained the lead with a birdie on No. 15 and an incredible shot followed by a birdie on No. 17.

Unfortunately, McIlroy's second shot on No. 18 landed in the bunker. Despite a good hit out of the sand, the 35-year-old two-putted his way to a bogey and a playoff with Rose.

Rose played his first two shots of the playoff masterfully but two-putted his way to a par. McIlroy answered with one of his best holes of the day, drained his birdie putt and earned his piece of history.

With Sunday's win, McIlroy joins a very short list of golfers who have won all four major tournaments. He, Gene Sarazen, Gary Player, Ben Hogan, Jack Nicklaus and Tiger Woods are the only ones who have achieved the feat.
