Rory McIlroy Takes 2-Shot Lead
2 of 4
Rory McIlroy's quest to achieve his first Masters victory received a major boost on Saturday.
He struggled to finish Round 1 on Thursday, carding a disappointing 72 that included multiple double bogeys.
McIlroy bounced back on Friday with a six-under 66 and remained sharp on Saturday.
He set the tone early, recording three birdies to go along with an eagle through his first five holes of the day. McIlroy became the first player in Masters history to start a round with six consecutive threes.
While he ran intro some trouble with bogeys on holes No. 8 and No. 10, he eventually responded with another eagle on No. 15.
The Northern Irishman has a two-shot lead entering Round 4.
Justin Rose Drops Down the Leaderboard
3 of 4
Similar to McIlroy, Justin Rose is also chasing the first Masters victory of his career.
Rose got off to a strong start by finishing with a seven-under 65 on Thursday. He wasn't as polished on Friday, but he was still able to remain atop the leaderboard after shooting a 71.
That wasn't the case on Saturday.
Rose couldn't find any consistency with his putting, failing to capitalize on multiple birdie opportunities. This included hole No. 16, as he was unable to build upon an impressive tee shot and ended up missing a putt from five feet away to result in a bogey.
Rose ended the third round with a three-over 75, recording five bogeys compared to a pair of birdies.
After leading through 36 holes, the 44-year-old will have a lot of work to do in order to move back into the No. 1 spot on Sunday.
Bryson DeChambeau Stays Within Striking Distance
4 of 4
Bryson DeChambeau didn't blow past expectations on Saturday, but he's still the closest to challenging McIlroy for the Green Jacket.
DeChambeau sat at No. 2 entering the day, as he was the only player to card two rounds in the 60s through Friday. He did the same on Saturday, remaining in the No. 2 position on the leaderboard after shooting a three-under 69.
The 31-year-old opened Round 3 with birdies on his first two holes, but he fell back to even-par with bogeys on No. 3 and No. 7.
DeChambeau's score remained the same through 14 holes, but he ended his round on a high note. Following strong drives on No. 15 and No. 16, he subsequently sunk two birdie putts to gain sole possession of No. 2 on the leaderboard.
The two-time U.S. Open winner will attempt to close the gap between himself and McIlroy when they'll be paired together on Sunday.
