Jon Rahm Says PGA Tour, PIF Agreement 'Not Happening Anytime Soon' amid Talks

Adam WellsApr 8, 2025

Fans eagerly anticipating the PGA Tour and LIV Golf coming to terms on a deal to make one single unified entity aren't likely to get a resolution in the near-future.

Speaking to reporters at a pre-Masters press conference on Tuesday, Jon Rahm said an agreement is "not happening anytime soon."

Rahm's comments come on the heels of ESPN's Mark Schlabach reporting last week the PGA Tour rejected the Saudi Public Investment Fund's offer of a $1.5 billion investment into PGA Tour Enterprises.

Schlabach noted the main sticking point in those talks revolved around the continuation of LIV Golf. The PIF wants LIV to remain intact under the agreement, but that was considered a "nonstarter" for the PGA Tour.

The PGA Tour would prefer to have all of the best golfers in the world playing on the same circuit.

“We don’t know. No one knows. We all want a solution, and it’s hard to give one,” Rahm said about where things stand in talks.

It was announced in June 2023 that the PGA Tour, DP World Tour and LIV Golf reached an agreement to form a unified golf entity, but details of the deal had not been finalized at that time.

Even though the parties set an initial deadline of Dec. 31, 2023 to finalize an agreement, they announced on that date an extension to work things out.

Nearly two years later from the time of that original announcement, there's been no indication anything is close. The PGA Tour received an investment up to $3 billion from Strategic Sports Group in January 2024 to fund for-profit entity PGA Tour Enterprises.

LIV Golf, despite significant financial investment from the PIF, has not really broken through to fans. The circuit had $394 million in operating losses during the 2024 season.

Brooks Koepka, who joined LIV in 2022 on a deal reportedly worth more than $100 million, said last week he thought the circuit "would have been a little bit further along" at this point, though he's optimistic that "seems to be going in the right direction."

Rahm made the jump from the PGA Tour to LIV Golf in December 2023. He won his first LIV tournament last July. The 30-year-old will be competing at the Masters this week after previously winning the green jacket in 2023.
