Masters Odds 2025 Tips for Golf-betting Novices and Best Picks in the Field

Kristopher KnoxApr 9, 2025

The Masters is the rare sort of golf tournament that often attracts casual fans. There's something magical about watching spring golf at Augusta National and seeing some of the best competitors in the world battle for the green jacket.

PGA stars like Rory McIlroy and Scottie Scheffler will face off this weekend, alongside LIV standouts like Jon Rahm and Bryson DeChambeau. In all, 95 golfers—following the withdrawal of Vijay Singh—are set to tee off on Thursday.

Predicting the winner of a four-day tournament is never easy, and a star-studded Masters field could easily intimidate novice betters. By balancing long-odds picks with a "safe" play or two, however, even beginners can find wagering success.

Here, you'll find a few betting tips for the 2025 Masters, based on the latest odds from DraftKings Sportsbook.

Avoid Scottie Scheffler, Consider Rory McIlroy as a'Safe' Bet

In betting, there's no such thing as a "sure thing." Every wager has the potential to lose, though some bets seem safer than others.

Fans looking to pair a long shot or two with an insurance wager should consider only one of the top two favorites—Scottie Scheffler and Rory McIlroy—for the second piece of the puzzle.

Scheffler is the defending champion and has won The Masters in two of the last three years. However, repeating at Augusta is notoriously difficult. No golfer has done it since Tiger Woods in 2001 and 2002. At +400, Scheffler simply doesn't possess attractive odds to win it all, and at -120 (bet $120 to win $100), there's no value in picking him for a top-five finish.

McIlroy has more attractive odds to win at +650. The Masters is the one major that has eluded the 35-year-old, but he's entering the weekend in top form. He's coming off of a top-five finish at the Texas Christian's Houston Open and has won the Pebble Beach Pro-Am and The Players Championship this season.

This could very well be the year in which McIlroy captures his career grand slam, and it'll be a major surprise if he's not in contention on Sunday. He's a fair pick to win, and at +130 to finish in the top five, McIlroy can provide value as a safety bet.

Consider Xander Schauffele and Collin Morikawa as Longer-Odds Favorites

The Masters - Practice Day Two
Collin Morikawa

At +1800, Xander Schauffele and Collin Morikawa are both attractive options to bet for the win. The potential payout is nearly three times that for McIlroy, and both competitors have fared well at Augusta before.

Schauffele finished tied for second in 2018 and tied for third in 2021. He also recorded top-10 finishes in each of the past two years. Morikawa has notched a top-10 finish in each of the past three tournaments. He's also been hitting the ball about as well as anyone at Augusta.

"The two-time major champion has gained true strokes across the board in his past four Masters appearances to card three consecutive Top 10s, with a T3 last year and a solo-fifth in 2022," Covers betting analyst Neil Parker wrote. "...The elite ball-striking will do the heavy lifting, so Morikawa just needs enough putts to fall."

As favorites go, Schauffele and Morikawa are both strong choices at their current odds. Pairing a bet to win with a high-finish wager is another move to consider because of their recent results.

Schauffele is +330 to finish in the top five and +160 to finish in the top 10. Morikawa is +280 and +130 to finish top five and top 10, respectively.

Consider Russell Henley as a Sleeper

THE PLAYERS Championship 2025 - Round Two
Russell Henley

It certainly feels like one of the favorites will walk away with this year's green jacket. However, there's always a chance that an unexpected champion will emerge—and it's always fun to wager on a dark horse, anyway.

Fans looking for a sleeper pick should strongly consider 35-year-old American Russell Henley.

At +5500 to win, Henley provides very favorable odds, and he's equally enticing at +700 for a top-five finish. While he only tied for 39th at last year's tournament, he tied for fourth in 2023.

Henley is also playing well right now with four top-10 finishes and a win at the Arnold Palmer Invitational on his 2025 resume.

"Henley has always been one of the best irons players on the PGA TOUR, but this season, he has been an elite putter as well, which has been the key to him playing the best golf of his career," Alex Hunter of DraftKings Network wrote.

While Henley might not be a big name among casual golf fans, he's a player novice betters should come to know ahead of The Masters.
