5-Star PF Nate Ament Postpones Commitment Decision amid Duke, Kentucky, Arkansas Links

Doric SamApr 1, 2025

Class of 2025 5-star power forward and McDonald's All-American Nate Ament is taking a bit more time before making his college decision.

Ament, who is deciding between Arkansas, Duke, Kentucky, Louisville and Tennessee, told ESPN's Paul Biancardi that he is postponing his commitment. He's ranked as the No. 4 player in the nation and No. 2 power forward in the class in 247Sports' composite rankings.

"I’m just not 100 percent yet; I want to take some extra time to be completely confident in my choice," Ament said. "I will connect with the people in my circle and will also be interested to see some transfer portal moves now that the tournament is coming to a close."

Per Zack Geoghegan of On3.com, fellow McDonald's All-American Malachi Moreno admitted to trying to recruit Ament to Kentucky.

"My pitch has been just, you see what Kentucky has. They have legends. They have a crazy fanbase," Moreno told reporters. "An amazing coach, an amazing coaching staff. Awesome facilities. It’s a great place to be. It’s really basketball-focused and it’s a real, true place where you can grow and you can reach your dreams."

Geoghegan noted that Ament said the primary things he's seeking as he continues his recruitment are a coach who will facilitate his development and a "great recruiting class" to join. He took an official visit to Kentucky in February.

The 6'9", 185-pound wing out of Highland School in Warrenton, Virginia, is a raw talent who has the potential to become a future superstar. 247Sports director of scouting Adam Finkelstein called Ament "one of the best long-term prospects in the country."

"What's glaring about Ament is just how much potential he has to get better," Finkelstein wrote in his evaluation. "He needs to get stronger, keep getting more aggressive, and polish all aspects of his skill set, but all the tools are in place for him to evolve into a skilled and smooth 6-foot-9-plus perimeter forward who is a true three-range scoring threat."

The program that lands Ament will be getting a special player whose best years are ahead of him, but it will have to wait a bit longer for his decision.
