Fans reacted to Hamlin’s big comeback at Martinsville:
The last three NASCAR Cup Series winners included Kyle Larson, who won at Homestead-Miami Speedway, Josh Berry, who took first at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, and Christopher Bell, who claimed his second consecutive win at Phoenix Raceway.
Chevrolet’s William Byron entered Sunday’s race in first place in the standings and remains there with 259 points, despite his 22nd-place finish. Chevrolet’s Kyle Larson remains in second place, 17 points behind, while Subaru driver Chase Elliott is in third, 33 points behind the leader.
The 44-year-old Denny Hamlin moved up two spots to sixth place, 42 points behind first.
Hamlin posted the fastest lap of the day at 20.19 seconds on lap 74 and dominated the race, leading for 274 laps. He took the lead on lap 123 after spending 75 laps in the top five.
As Hamlin built a commanding lead, the battle for second place heated up between Christopher Bell, Bubba Wallace, and Chase Elliott. The trio were separated by less than 0.6 seconds on lap 379, creating an intense race for position as they fought down the stretch.
The action will resume next Sunday at the Goodyear 400 at Darlington Raceway in South Carolina.
