Chloe Kim Wins Halfpipe Gold Medal at 2025 Snowboard World Championships
American snowboarder Chloe Kim won halfpipe gold at the World Championships on Saturday in St. Moritz, Switzerland.
The 24-year-old secured her third world title with a dominant first run, scoring 93.50 after landing a double cork 1080 and double 900s.
“I think I am back (on top of my game)," Kim told the FIS after the win. "I started to find the joy for the sport again and that has been a positive change.”
Her second run was a victory lap, during which she attempted a cab 1260— a trick no woman has ever landed in competition— but fell on the landing.
“My favorite part about a victory lap is trying to progress the sport and try to do the craziest run I’ve ever done,” Kim continued “I was hoping to put that down here, but next time.”
Japan’s Sara Shimizu took silver (90.75), while Mitsuki Ono earned bronze (88.50).
Poor weather delayed Saturday's final by more than two hours, taking a toll on the riders in their final runs.
“Today was definitely a big mental battle, I think for all the ladies,” Kim said. “I definitely had a couple mental breakdowns during practice, so I’m just really happy I was able to land something.”
Her comeback season after a two-year break to focus on her mental health and recover from burnout following the 2022 Beijing Games—where she won her second Olympic gold medal—began in January with a victory at the Aspen X Games.
There, she made history by becoming the first woman to land frontside and cab double cork 1080s.
“(I) just want to kind of reset. I don’t want to get right back into it after such a fun, but draining year, at the same time, knowing that it was an Olympic year," Kim said in 2022 after her announcement that she would be stepping away, per NBC News' Marlene Lenthang.
With the win, Kim clinched a spot in the 2026 Winter Olympics next February in Milano Cortina.
