Malinin's 110.41 score was a new personal-best mark. His stellar routine included a quadruple flip, triple Axel and a quad Lutz–triple toe loop combination.

The 20-year-old revealed that he was initially nervous when stepping onto the ice before calming down once his performance started.

"Actually stepping on the ice, I felt more nervous than usual," Malinin said, via USA Today's Tom Schad. "And I didn't understand why. I was like, 'OK, this is interesting.' But once the music started playing and I got into a starting position, I almost fell into that flow state. And it really just took me from there."

As for Miura Riku and Kihara Ryuichi, they earned gold medals once again after winning silver at the 2024 ISU World Championships. They narrowly won, as their overall score was a mere 0.71 points higher than the German duo of Fabienne Hase and Nikita Volodin.

The World Championships will continue on Friday with the rhythm dance and women's free skate competitions.
