WWE Rumors on Goldberg vs. Gunther, Alexa Bliss' Return and Money in the Bank Location
Bleacher Report catches you up on the latest news from the WWE Universe.
WWE's Reported Plans for Goldberg vs. Gunther
WWE has yet to announce a date or opponent for Goldberg's retirement match in 2025, but tentative plans were reportedly in place at one point.
According to Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter (h/t WrestlePurists), the original plan for Goldberg's retirement match called for him to face Gunther once Gunther dropped the World Heavyweight Championship.
Back in October, Goldberg made a surprise appearance in the crowd at the Bad Blood premium live event in Atlanta.
Gunther cut a promo and took some personal shots at Goldberg, which led to the WWE Hall of Famer jumping the barricade and attempting to get into a physical confrontation with The Ring General.
Shortly after that happened, Goldberg appeared on SEC Network's SEC Nation and said he reached an agreement with WWE that would allow him to have his retirement match in 2025:
Goldberg did not announce a date, location or opponent, but he mentioned Gunther as a possibility given what occurred between them at Bad Blood.
Gunther is set to defend the world heavyweight title against Royal Rumble winner Jey Uso at WrestleMania 41, and if he drops the title to Jey as is widely expected, it would open the door for him to transition into a feud with Goldberg.
SummerSlam stands out as a potential location for Goldberg vs. Gunther if WWE goes in that direction since it will be a two-night event for the first time this year, taking place at the New York Jets' and Giants' MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey.
That would allow Goldberg to go out in front of a large and raucous crowd, which would be a fitting end to his legendary career.
Reported Reason for Bliss' Recent WWE TV Absence
Alexa Bliss has not competed in a match since Elimination Chamber on March 1, but there is reportedly a storyline-related reason for her absence.
According to Meltzer (h/t Steve Carrier of Ringside News), it is believed that WWE is keeping Bliss off television until the Wyatt Sicks return and make their presence felt on SmackDown.
After losing a Raw Women's Championship match against Bianca Belair at Royal Rumble 2023, Bliss disappeared from WWE programming, and later announced that she was pregnant with her first child.
Two years after her last match, Bliss made her return at Royal Rumble 2025 as a surprise entrant in the women's Royal Rumble match.
Bliss then beat Candice LeRae in a singles match on SmackDown to qualify for the women's Elimination Chamber match, and despite a strong performance, she fell short of winning the Chamber and earning a women's title match at WrestleMania 41.
Over the course of the handful of appearances Bliss has made on SmackDown since February, mysterious glitches have occurred on the screen, likely in reference to the Wyatt Sicks.
Prior to Bliss' pregnancy and Bray Wyatt's unexpected death, they had an on-screen alliance in WWE, so it would make plenty of sense for Bliss to work with the Wyatt Sicks moving forward.
With WrestleMania quickly approaching, it is possible WWE will hold off on having Bliss and the Wyatt Sicks return until WrestleMania itself or possibly the post-WrestleMania edition of Raw or SmackDown.
L.A. Reportedly Expected to Host Money in the Bank 2025
The Money in the Bank premium live event will reportedly emanate from one of WWE's biggest markets this coming summer.
According to WrestleVotes on Backstage Pass (h/t Carrier), the Intuit Dome in Los Angeles has been chosen as the location for Money in the Bank 2025.
The Intuit Dome is a state-of-the-art venue that opened in August 2024, and it primarily serves as the home of the NBA's Los Angeles Clippers.
It has already played host to a major WWE show, as the first episode of Raw to stream live on Netflix back in January was held at the Intuit Dome.
Money in the Bank will serve as the first WWE premium live event at the Intuit Dome should it come to fruition.
Since 2010, Money in the Bank has been a standalone event that is headlined by the Money in the Bank ladder matches.
Despite Money in the Bank becoming one of WWE's biggest PLEs over the years, it has never been held in L.A. before.
The date for Money in the Bank 2025 isn't yet known, but it has occurred in July each of the past four years, so there is a good chance that will be the case once again this year.
Tiffany Stratton parlayed winning the Money in the Bank ladder match last year into becoming the WWE women's champion, and more stars figure to be born this year at Money in the Bank as well.
