WWE Rumors on Travis Scott, Jade Cargill Backstage Heat; John Cena's Updated Schedule
Bleacher Report catches you up on the latest news from the WWE Universe.
Some in WWE Reportedly Unhappy with Travis Scott
Following his involvement at Elimination Chamber last weekend, rapper Travis Scott reportedly drew the ire of some people in WWE.
Scott accompanied The Rock to the ring for the closing segment of the show, which was WWE champion Cody Rhodes giving his answer to The Rock regarding whether he would sell him his soul.
After Rhodes declined, John Cena turned heel by attacking him, and both The Rock and Scott joined Cena in beating down The American Nightmare.
Dave Meltzer of Wrestling Observer Radio (h/t WrestlePurists) reported last week that Rhodes suffered a black eye and busted eardrum as a result of the attack, and it was believed that Scott was the culprit.
In a follow-up, Meltzer (h/t Randall Ortman of Cageside Seats) reported that Scott received "all kinds of heat backstage" with some expressing their belief that he "shouldn't have been out there nor put in that position in the first place."
Scott has never wrestled a match and has very little experience being around pro wrestling in general, but WWE clearly wanted to capitalize on his star power by getting him involved in one of the biggest angles in pro wrestling history.
After Elimination Chamber, The Rock responded affirmatively when asked if Scott would potentially wrestle some matches moving forward.
Fightful Select (h/t Steve Carrier of Ringside News) then reported that Scott has been doing some pro wrestling training, and discussions have taken place within WWE about him wrestling.
Despite the apparent issues some in the company have with Scott, head of creative Triple H made it clear Friday at the Sloan Sports Analytics Conference (h/t Carrier) that Scott will continue to be a big part of things moving forward, saying: "We have Travis Scott in the middle of a storyline right now that will get bigger as we head into WrestleMania, and coming out of it."
Rhodes vs. Cena is lining up to be the likely main event of WrestleMania 41, and while The Rock's involvement was already obvious, it sounds like Scott will continue to be in the mix as well.
Details on Reported Backstage Drama Involving Cargill
Prior to being out of action for about four months, Jade Cargill was reportedly the subject of some backstage turmoil that also included Shayna Baszler.
According to Meltzer (h/t Carrier), it all started at Clash at the Castle in Scotland back in June when Cargill accidentally tapped out while Baszler had her in a submission hold.
The match was not supposed to end there since Alba Fyre and Isla Dawn were the planned winners, so the bout continued despite the miscue.
Per Meltzer, sources claim Cargill said afterward that Baszler "needed to learn how to work," which rubbed many the wrong way.
The beef was kept under wraps for months, but tensions reportedly bubbled up again after Cargill's recent return due to a vignette in which Cargill said she was "surrounded by wolves in the shape of women all around her," which some took personally.
However, Fightful Select (h/t Carrier) reported that Cargill was actually disappointed in herself and apologetic over how things played out at Clash at the Castle.
Fightful (h/t Carrier) then followed up with a report that the source of the ire some have toward Cargill is the fact that she asked for time off during WWE's mandatory holiday tour.
Although WWE confirmed to Fightful that the time off was due to an injury, some talent questioned if Cargill was actually injured or if the severity was significant enough to warrant missing the tour.
Cargill finally returned at Elimination Chamber by shockingly attacking Naomi, which took Naomi out of the women's Elimination Chamber match.
On SmackDown, Naomi admitted to Bianca Belair that she was the one who attacked Cargill and put her on the shelf, which led to Cargill showing up and attacking Naomi again.
Regardless of how Cargill's peers feel about her, she seems poised for her first WrestleMania singles match against Naomi next month.
Cena's Updated Schedule Revealed
Following his surprising heel turn at Elimination Chamber, John Cena is scheduled to make regular appearances leading up to WrestleMania 41.
WWE.com is advertising Cena to appear on three consecutive episodes of Raw during the upcoming European Tour. Cena is set to show up on the March 17 Raw in Brussels, the March 24 Raw in Glasgow and the March 31 Raw in London.
Cena is also advertised for the first SmackDown after WrestleMania 41 on April 25, and for the May 24 edition of Saturday Night's Main Event.
For the first time since 2003, Cena is a heel, which is something fans long clamored for, but most never expected to actually happen.
It is fair to say that Cena's turn is the biggest since Hulk Hogan in 1996, which is why there is so much anticipation for Cena explaining his actions.
Cena has not appeared on WWE programming since Elimination Chamber, but it seems as though the March 17 Raw in Brussels will be his first opportunity to discuss his decision to sell out and join forces with The Rock.
With Cena vs. Rhodes likely lined up as the main event of WrestleMania 41, that storyline figures to dominate WWE programming in the weeks to come.
There is already a great deal of excitement surrounding the match because of Cena's turn, and if his upcoming appearances hit the right notes, Cena vs. Rhodes could be the most highly anticipated match on the WrestleMania card.
