Pittsburgh CB Mason Alexander Dies at Age 18 in Car Crash
Pittsburgh freshman cornerback Mason Alexander died Saturday night in a car accident in Fishers, Indiana, according to ESPN's Adam Rittenberg.
Pitt head coach Pat Narduzzi said that "our entire program is shocked and deeply saddened to learn of Mason Alexander's passing."
"Mason was proud and excited to be a Panther, and we felt the same way about having him in our Pitt family," the coach said. "He will always be a Panther to us."
The Hamilton County sheriff's office said Alexander, 18, was a passenger in a BMW traveling southbound. The driver of the BMW attempted to pass another car before swerving to avoid a northbound vehicle. The BMW went off the road and struck a tree. Emergency personnel pronounced Alexander dead at the scene.
Alexander attended Hamilton Southeastern High School in Fishers before signing with Pitt. He was a 4-star recruit and ranked 420th nationally in 247Sports' composite rankings for 2025. He enrolled at the school after his signing was made official.
Nathan Breisinger of Pittsburgh Sports Now noted that Panthers football players are on spring break along with their classmates.
