Jake Paul Calls Out 'Bum' Floyd Mayweather Jr., Says He'd Earn KO Win in 2 Rounds
Jake Paul responded Thursday to comments made by Floyd Mayweather Jr. during an appearance on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon on Wednesday.
In a post on X, Paul predicted that he would knock Mayweather out in two rounds if they were to ever box each other:
Mayweather was dismissive of Paul during the Tonight Show interview, first downplaying the success of his Netflix fight against Mike Tyson. Mayweather suggested Paul vs. Tyson was highly watched since it was "free" for those with a Netflix subscription:
The 48-year-old boxing legend compared Paul vs. Tyson to his own big fights, saying: "When you're watching Floyd Mayweather, you have to pay. I did pay-per-view numbers. Check the record."
To Mayweather's point, he occupied the top four spots in terms of the most purchased boxing pay-per-views of all time as of last year, per Rodney Reeves of Front Office Sports.
Mayweather vs. Manny Pacquiao was in the top spot with 4.6 million buys, followed by fights against Conor McGregor (4.3 million), Oscar De La Hoya (2.44 million) and Canelo Álvarez (2.2 million).
By comparison, Netflix announced that Paul vs. Tyson drew over 108 million live viewers globally, although it was far different from a traditional pay-per-view since anyone with a Netflix subscription could watch.
On top of the discussion about Paul vs. Tyson, Mayweather said beating Paul would be "too easy," even as he approaches 50 years of age.
Mayweather has not had an official professional boxing match since 2017 when he beat McGregor to run his career record to a perfect 50-0.
However, Mayweather has competed in several exhibitions since then, including one against Paul's brother Logan Paul in 2021.
As for Jake Paul, he had his first professional bout in 2020, and he has since compiled a career record of 11-1.
While Paul has undoubtedly shown improvement in a short amount of time, his level of competition has often been questioned with many of his fights being against former MMA fighters such as Ben Askren, Tyron Woodley, Anderson Silva and Nate Diaz.
His most high-profile fight to date was against the 58-year-old Tyson in November, which he won by unanimous decision.
While Tyson is one of the greatest heavyweights of all time, he hadn't had a pro fight since 2005, and he clearly had lost almost all of the speed, explosiveness and power he had in his prime.
Paul vs. Mayweather would likely be a more competitive fight, although Paul has a significant size advantage and is much younger at 28 years of age.
While there is no indication that Paul vs. Mayweather is in the works, Paul is in search of his next opponent after a proposed clash with Álvarez fell through.
