Buy or Sell Latest WrestleMania 41 Match Rumors, Shane McMahon's AEW Meeting and More
Figuring out what’s real and what’s fake on the WWE rumor mill right now feels nearly impossible.
WWE is, after all, sprinting right at WrestleMania with only a short pitstop at the Elimination Chamber in the way.
Some things, like Jey Uso challenging Gunther in the wake of his Royal Rumble triumph, have removed the surprise from the next few weeks. But plenty remains undetermined, such as what happens with huge names like Cody Rhodes and John Cena.
This week’s long list of offerings from the rumor mill is relentless to this theme. There are rumblings about major returns, what might happen with names like Solo Sikoa at WrestleMania, and how things are trending ahead of Elimination Chamber, an event that will have a sweeping impact on ‘Mania itself.
To help fans sort real from fake, here’s a look at the most buzzworthy rumors and whether they should buy or sell on each.
Jade Cargill's return
1 of 5
The Rumor
Jade Cargill has been one of the biggest buzzing possible returning names around WrestleMania this year. According to PW Insider (h/t Randall Ortman of Cageside Seats), Cargill has been ramping back up and there are creative plans on the way.
Reaction
This is great news—the women’s division could use an element of unpredictability entering the fray at the last moment before ‘Mania. Especially so, considering how predictable things have become since slightly before and in the wake of the Royal Rumble with Charlotte Flair. Hence, Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful (h/t Rajah.com’s Joey G.) also reporting that there is some “apparent frustration” around the booking of the women’s division within WWE.
Buy or Sell?
Buy. Cargill hasn’t been in action since obviously getting written off with an “injury’ storyline last November. That was apparently to cover a legit injury. If it wasn’t super serious, ‘Mania always seemed like a strong possibility for the return. There are many interesting ways to go, such as her attacking Bianca Belair.
Bloodline Latest
2 of 5
The Rumor
The apparent ending of the Bloodline saga (for now, anyway) has left questions around some big names. According to WrestleVotes (h/t Ortman), WWE plans to navigate this by having Solo Sikoa and Jacob Fatu face each other in a WrestleMania match.
Reaction
It’s disappointing to see the Bloodline shoved aside, and hard not to blame The Rock for dipping back out of WWE. Roman Reigns feuding with CM Punk and Seth Rollins is too good to pass up, too, leaving Sikoa and Fatu a little stranded.
Buy or Sell?
Easy buy. There’s a fun story to tell between Sikoa and Fatu. But one just has to hope that they can carry the saga in an interesting fashion before ‘Mania season blows past. Then, perhaps Reigns gets involved again and it can progress in interesting ways.
Huge 'Mania Match Plans
3 of 5
The Rumor
Plenty of huge names remain up in the air when it comes to ‘Mania plans. WrestleVotes (h/t Ortman) looped in some of those recently, suggesting that Finn Bálor might not be the opponent for Dominik Mysterio. Instead, the former might clash with AJ Styles, provided he’s not asked to do the Bron Breakker match.
Reaction
WWE can’t really go wrong here. Mysterio might have more interesting feuds elsewhere tied to his faction. Bálor-Styles has some serious history behind it. But tops here is the mention of Styles linking up with Breakker, which might be the best possible play of all.
Buy or Sell?
Sell everything here while buying up shares on Styles vs. Breakker. This is a classical, super-strong WWE booking that makes sense. Breakker needs a win over a credible veteran on the biggest stage possible to keep his push to the very top of the main-event scene going in the right direction. Styles remains one of the best in the world and can steer the match and make him look amazing in the process.
Elimination Chamber Favorites?
4 of 5
The Rumor
So much hinges on the outcome of Elimination Chamber that it’s always interesting to look at odds. According to Ortman, John Cena and Bianca Belair remain the favorites to win their respective division’s chamber matches.
Reaction
This feels like everyone just playing it safe. One would think Cena must win his chamber, given his current story. But plans change all the time (and not all of them for the best). Belair feels obvious, but the women’s division is hard to read, especially with somebody like Cargill apparently on the way back.
Buy or Sell?
Buy, at least for now. Those two Superstars still need prime spots on the ‘Mania card. On the men’s side, guys like Punk can take a loss and still feud with Reigns. On the women’s side, plenty of options remain for the likes of Liv Morgan and Alexa Bliss.
Shane McMahon and AEW Buzz
5 of 5
The Rumor
Remember that weird meeting that took place between Shane McMahon and AEW’s Tony Ghan? According to Jonathan Coachman (h/t Ortman), McMahon apparently “asked for the world” during the meeting, wanting to run AEW programming.
Reaction
This one is wild. Strange. Odd. Fill in with more preferred words. McMahon apparently wanted to get involved in AEW, but on his terms. Yet later in the report, it mentions that he didn’t really have a deep product knowledge of AEW, either. So…maybe they link back up again if and when Shane knows the product better?
Buy or Sell?
This one has to be a sell, right? If Shane was serious about getting involved in a managerial capacity with AEW, surely he would’ve done the necessary research first. Then again, we are talking about pro wrestling. Let’s go ahead and buy on a one-off appearance sometime down the road that could perhaps lead to an on-screen sort of authority figure angle for Shane, though.
