Video: Tom Izzo Breaks Bob Knight's Historic Big Ten Wins Record as MSU Beats Illinois
Michigan State men's basketball head coach Tom Izzo made history on Saturday night.
With the Spartans' 79-65 win over Illinois, Izzo recorded the 354th Big Ten victory of his career. He now has the most all-time and surpassed Basketball Hall of Fame coach Bob Knight, who held the previous record of 353 wins in the conference.

Despite making history, the 70-year-old was more interested in winning national championships
"I'd give up the Big Ten wins record for two more NCAA tournament championships," Izzo said, via ESPN.
Izzo owns an overall record of 727-300 as the Spartans' head coach, holding the position since 1995. Michigan State has made an NCAA Tournament appearance in each season since 1998, securing a national title in 2000.
The Spartans own a 20-5 record during their 2024-25 campaign, sitting at No. 11 in the latest Associated Press Top 25 poll. They hit a rough patch prior to their victory over the Fighting Illini, losing three of their past four games entering the contest.
Izzo specifically discussed Michigan State's poor performance during a 71-67 loss to Indiana at home on Tuesday.
"We had an opportunity [Tuesday] for a special night," Izzo said, per ESPN. "But the players didn't play well, and the coaches didn't coach well. That's a bad combination against a team that's desperate for a win."
The Spartans will look to build upon Izzo's new record during their next game, a matchup with No. 7 Purdue on Tuesday.
