WWE Raw Results: Biggest Winners, Losers and Moments from June 22

Erik BeastonJun 23, 2015

Seth Rollins was again the focal point of Monday night's episode of Raw, just weeks away from his WWE World Heavyweight Championship defense against the unstoppable force that is Brock Lesnar.

The Architect was at his smarmy best, trying desperately to get back on the good side of Kane and J&J Security, knowing full well that he could not conquer Lesnar on his own. He was brilliant as he sucked up to each of his associates, playing to their egos in an attempt to convince them to stand by his side against The Beast Incarnate.

And then he was the last man standing at the end of the night, the world heavyweight title raised high overhead and the most dominant star in the industry lying at his feet.

There is a lot to be said about the main event angleand it will be said in a momentbut Rollins certainly benefited and now looks like the conniving, cunning, manipulative champion who will find any way possible to retain his title at Battleground.

While he was the biggest winner of this week's show, he was hardly the only one.

Kevin Owens had a big night, as did both Sheamus and Roman Reigns. Then there were the losers, like The New Day and Dean Ambrose.

How did they land on each side of the argument?

Take a look for yourself.

Loser: WWE Creative

The biggest loser from this week's show is WWE Creative, without a shadow of a doubt.

In one night, the crack writing staffnot to mention creative genius himself Vince McMahontook the biggest box office attraction it had in Brock Lesnar and booked him like any other gullible and stupid babyface on the roster.

Lesnar fell into a trap, then was beaten down by Kane, J&J Security and Seth Rollins to close out the show.

The problem with that scenario is that we have all been conditioned to believe that Lesnar is a world-class ass-kicker who tears through the opposition with the ruthlessness of an animalistic predator.

Being taken out by Jamie Noble, Joey Mercury and Kanethree bumbling and fumbling lackeysand a cowardly champion whom he had previously tossed all around the squared circle not only threatened the invincibility of Lesnar, but it made absolutely no sense.

Sure, WWE Creative was trying to tell the same tired story of the numbers game overwhelming the babyface No. 1 contender, but Lesnar is different and should have conceivably been able to overcome the four-on-one attack.

Now, he looks no better than Reigns, Ambrose and Randy Orton, all of whom have fallen prey to the same sort of beatdown.

And therein lies the problem: Lesnar is better than those guys. He is the biggest draw the company has and one of the most recognizable stars in the company. It is imperative to protect himnot allow him to fall into the same tired booking traps that others have.

He did on Monday night, and WWE Creativeincluding the big boss himself—is responsible for it.

Winner: Kevin Owens

The NXT champion continued his outstanding work on the microphone on Monday night, interrupting a John Cena promo to set up the United States Championship match at Battleground.

He reasserted that nothing Cena says really affects him because he has made a career out of ignoring criticisms or opinions of him and his work. From there, he mocked Cena's desire to be the hero, busting out some French so he could be perceived as the "evil foreigner."

What Owens did better than anything, though, was put over the prestige of the United States Championship. He agreed that the title is a symbol of excellence. "I want it to be a symbol of my excellence," he told Cena.

It was a beautiful line that saw Owens state his desire to hold the title rather than strengthen his legacy, which is too often the goal of WWE's main roster stars.

Owens has been spectacular to this point. His matches with Cena were both Match of the Year candidates and the promo work has been so different from everything else fans are accustomed to that he really has been a breath of fresh air.

Loser: Dean Ambrose

There was reason to be concerned about Ambrose coming out of Money in the Bank, especially since his loss to Rollins in the Ladder match left him without any clear feud or direction going forward.

Those concerns were realized on Monday night when he kicked off the show with a loss to Kane following interference from Rollins.

Worst of all was the fact that it was not a match designed to keep the feud between the former Shield members alive. Instead, Ambrose was but a bit player in the story involving Rollins and Kane. He lost the match, then did not appear on the rest of the broadcast.

Yes, the most popular star in WWE over the last two months was relegated to a single segment of television, playing a role in a loss to Kane that literally any other guy on the roster could have.

Just like his use at the end of 2014 dumbfounded fans, expect that to be the case going forward if this type of booking continues.

Losers: The New Day

Kofi Kingston, Big E and Xavier Woods were the hottest villains on the roster just a few weeks ago. Since Woods and Big E dropped the tag titles to the Prime Time Players at Money in the Bank, they have lost a ton of momentum.

On Monday night, fans got a look at just how much as Neville defeated Kingston with the Red Arrow despite attempted interference from the other heels at ringside.

Why the company has unraveled all it accomplished with the act just for the sake of putting Neville and The Prime Time Players over remains a mystery. The New Day was a team fans were reacting to more and more passionately with every passing week.

At a time when the company desperately needs villains, it makes no sense to treat the trio like it has over the last two weeks.

Winners: Roman Reigns and Sheamus

The two most dominant stars in the Money in the Bank ladder match a week ago battled in singles competition on Monday night.

In what should have been no surprise to anyone watching over the last few months, Reigns turned in another phenomenal in-ring performance, continuing to stake his claim as one of the best in-ring workers of 2015.

And then there is Sheamus, who is so incredibly underrated. He and Reigns demonstrated strong in-ring chemistry in a really good, quality match. Unfortunately, it was hindered by a terrible finish involving a distraction from Bray Wyatt, but that does not erase the work put in by the performers.

A longer, more defined rivalry between them could make for a tremendous in-ring series.
