WWE Battleground 2015: Predicting Most Likely Swerves at PPV

Aaron BowerJun 23, 2015

As with every pay-per-view the WWE host, hopes are high that throughout the course of the event, there will be one or two swerves that create some real moments of excitement at Battleground.

Money in the Bank may have slightly failed to deliver in that regard, but with plenty of time between that show and Battleground, there is the potential for the WWE to plan some real surprises to catch fans off guard.

Whether they are in the main event between Brock Lesnar and Seth Rollins, or further down the card in some of the more low-key matches, there is always the potential for a swerve. Here are some of the more likely ones we could expect to see.

Another NXT Debut

Right now, it seems like very few people will come close to toppling Nikki Bella and becoming the new Divas champion.

With her reign currently well over 200 days, it looks like she could be set for a lengthy spell as champion.

However, if she fights Paige again at Battleground, perhaps the opportunity could arise for one of NXT's leading lights to step up and make a major impact.

Charlotte is naturally the name on most people's lips when looking at the next NXT female star to step up, but there are other options. However, Ric Flair's daughter has been one of the leading lights of NXT for a good few months now, and with the likes of Sasha Banks and Becky Lynch clearly ready to keep that division strong in NXT, now could be Charlotte's time.

But regardless of who it is, there are a few options open to ensure that any debut at Battleground is a significant one. But with Paige desperately trying to rally the division to down The Bella Twins, maybe the best angle would be for an NXT star to come out and answer that call.

Sheamus Fails to Cash In MITB

After his shock win at Money in the Bank to claim the coveted briefcase, talk will now start to turn to when Sheamus decides to cash in his Money in the Bank briefcase.

Seth Rollins waited almost a year, as we know, but the likelihood is that Sheamus may cash in much sooner than that.

And given the initial reaction to his success at Money in the Bank, perhaps Sheamus' destiny is to join the short list of men who have failed to successfully cash in the illustrious briefcase.

If they had him cash in and fail against a rampant Brock Lesnar following Battleground, it would certainly not make him look as weak as if he lost to someone like Seth Rollins.

Quite where Sheamus cashes in, and against whom if he is going to win, looks tough at this moment in time, so maybe the best swerve is for him to ultimately fail where John Cena and Damien Sandow did in the past.

The Authority Turns on Seth Rollins

The seeds of tension between Seth Rollins and The Authority have been planted for a good few weeks now.

Rollins is being forced to increasingly go it alone after the likes of Kane and J&J Security decided they'd had enough, and last week on Raw, Triple H handed Rollins his toughest test yet as champion.

Quite how his match with Brock Lesnar pans out is anyone's guess, but with all the tension between Triple H and the WWE World Heavyweight champion, could The Authority finally turn on him?

Of course, that would likely mean a babyface turn for Rollins, which would be peculiar, but there has to be an endgame for this tension.

Their allegiance has lasted over a year now, and in the spirit of keeping things fresh and different, perhaps a turn for Rollins could be his next significant move.

It would enable Lesnar to become world heavyweight champion yet again and send Rollins down a completely different path to the one he is on now.
