WWE Battleground 2015: Most Underappreciated Storylines to Follow

Aaron BowerJun 22, 2015

After a rapid few weeks with numerous pay-per-views in a short period of time, WWE fans have a few weeks to recharge their batteries before the next major show, Battleground.

That means that there is plenty of time for WWE to invest some effort into storylines that may have suffered in recent weeks, as well as even newer ones that need to ramp up interest a touch.

While Brock Lesnar vs. Seth Rollins and a likely third bout between John Cena and Kevin Owens will grab headlines, there are some other underappreciated storylines worth keeping an eye on in the coming weeks.

Nikki Bella Nearing a Record

Now that she's well over 200 days into her reign, by the time Battleground rolls around, Nikki Bella will be less than 60 days away from becoming the longest-reigning Divas champion of all time.

It's looking more and more like Nikki will beat AJ Lee's record of 295 days, as she has seen off a number of challengers in the last few months.

The fact that she and her sister Brie are now firmly established as heels will only further strengthen her reign as champion, because in recent months they appeared to be jumping back and forth between characters.

If she challenges Paige again at Battleground, expect another controversial victory to keep this momentum going.

The New Day's Response

One of the more surprising developments of 2015 so far has been the rise of The New Day.

Few would argue with the notion that when the group came together, its gimmick just didn't seem to click with fans.

But a heel turn has worked wonders, and although the faction dropped the WWE Tag Team Championships at Money in the Bank, it still has a bright future in the division.

Expect The New Day to go after The Prime Time Players in the next few weeks, as the feud looks quite encouraging and could be a great one for the division.

The New Day's Kofi Kingston, Big E and Xavier Woods have a nice mix of athleticism, brute force and mic skills. Hopefully they can continue to improve and solidify themselves as a great stable over the next few weeks.

Dean Ambrose's Next Move

After he was replaced by Brock Lesnar as the outright challenger for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship, Dean Ambrose is at quite an interesting crossroads right now.

He needs something to keep him busy while Lesnar is back on the scene, and how he is booked over the next few weeks could be both intriguing and vital to his development.

It would be wise to book him strongly so that when Lesnar does take another break, Ambrose can come back in prime position to be a legitimate contender for the title.

A holding feud with someone like Sheamus or even someone from The Authority would be sound here. It wouldn't be a permanent or long-term feud, just something to keep him occupied.
