Lessons Not Learned...Pacman To Blount
In 2007, Adam 'Pacman' Jones was suspended for...Anyone? Anyone? violating the NFL conduct polices. Roger Goodell announce his...Anyone? Anyone? one year suspension was due to his...Anyone? Anyone? off field transgressions. Seven off field incidents in particular. The one that got the most press was...Anyone? Anyone? The Las Vegas shooting case where Jones joined rapper Nelly in...Anyone? Anyone? throwing his own money for "visual effect." Anyone know what this is? Class? Anyone? Anyone? Anyone seen this before? Making It rain. Anyone know what this say? It says that stupidity fallows Mr. Jones around. This lead to a very controversial move by the Dallas Cowboys Owner Jerry Jones by giving him another shot at glory.
I think there is a lesson to be learned here. Predominantly athletes today are great contributors to society. They do their job give back to their community and little ado is ever given to them. However when a public figure such as a high profile athlete does something negative it give other athletes a bad name. I think all athletes and public figures should learn from their peers mistakes. Some one is ALWAYS watching you and whether you like it or not you are a role model to someone. That's the price you pay for getting a free (potentially top-notch) education, earning millions of dollars, and playing a game for a living.
I understand that these athletes work hard and are pushed to the limits of their bodies both physically and mentally. I also understand that, as much as we would like to believe these men, and women, are not super heroes standing for truth, justice and the American way. They are merely human just like you or I and they make mistakes. And when we do make mistakes, everyone deserves another chance to make it right. Something that Adam 'Pacman' Jones did not do on several occasions.
I was greatly saddened when I saw Oregon's running back LeGarrette Blount strike a blunt blow to a Boise State player. Yes I agree that it was provoked but COME ON BLOUNT YOU CAN NOT LOSE YOUR HEAD LIKE THAT! Blount had NFL scouts talking, some said 2nd round...Thats potentially millions of dollars he cost himself with one bad moment.
To all future athletes and current rule and conduct polices abiding ones, Please think about your actions. Someone is watching and the person it hurts most is you. You play a game for a living and if you fall into bad judgments on and off the field, what will you do when you can no longer play? If you need proof that you actions effect your life just ask Pacman he's out search for ghost again while the NFL passes him by.
