New Study Claims That Chelsea Fans Are the 'Least Passionate' on Twitter

Sean FayJun 19, 2015

Do you have lots of Chelsea fans making "noise" on your Twitter timeline?

Well, you shouldn't have that many, according to one new study that claims Chelsea supporters are the "least passionate" on the social networking site.

A company called Shine Communications carried out the study, and the London Evening Standard explained its methods:

"

The agency looked at how many followers each of the teams in the top-flight last season had, plus the number of mentions and posts published by supporters about their respective clubs on Twitter.

They then calculated how "passionate" fans of each side were—with the results leaving Chelsea bottom with the lowest number of Twitter noise per supporter.

"

Chelsea were tied with Stoke City at the bottom of the table, with Burnley at the top of the table.

Shine also conducted a study to see who were the happiest fans on Twitter, with Swansea City topping that list and QPR at the bottom.

Per Shine's website, the "passionate" table was as follows, with the figures representing "Twitter noise per fan":

1. Burnley

0.47

2. Everton

17. Arsenal

18. Manchester City

And the "happiest" table, based on "[percent] of positive sentiment from fan posts on Twitter":

1. Swansea City

2. Burnley
