WWE NXT Results: Winners, Grades, Reaction and Highlights from June 17

Erik BeastonJun 17, 2015

At NXT Takeover: Unstoppable, Samoa Joe made his shocking WWE debut by confronting Kevin Owens following his NXT Championship defense against Sami Zayn.

Wednesday night, for the first time in a Vince McMahon-owned ring, they met one-on-one.

With anticipation and expectations sky-high, were the celebrated Ring of Honor alumni able to deliver a classic, or was the match more of a setup for a bigger, better and higher-profile match sometime down the road?

Enzo Amore, Big Cass and Carmella attempted to avenge the betrayal perpetrated by Alexa Bliss at Unstoppable as they met the former fitness model and NXT tag team champions Buddy Murphy and Wesley Blake in a six-person tag team match.

Were the Staten Island Princess and the Certified Gs able to get their much-desired vengeance, or would the champions and their new associate once again prove one step ahead of the babyfaces?

Charlotte rounded out the card as NXT invaded the WWE Network for its regular television goodness.

Relive this week's broadcast with all of the winners, grades and analysis from the June 17 episode.

Enzo Amore, Big Cass and Carmella vs. Buddy Murphy, Wesley Blake and Alexa Bliss

1 of 3

One of the more entertaining rivalries in NXT kicked things off this week as Enzo Amore, Big Cass and Carmella battled Buddy Murphy, Wesley Blake and Alexa Bliss in six-person tag team action.

The babyfaces were on fire early, clearing the ring, but after break the heels controlled the smaller Enzo.

After taking Big Cass off the apron, preventing that hot tag, Amore had no choice but to tag Carmella into the bout. Bliss followed, and the Staten Island Princess pummeled her rival.

From there, Cass and Amore delivered the Rocket Launcher to score the pinfall victory.

Result

Enzo Amore, Big Cass and Carmella defeated Wesley Blake, Buddy Murphy and Alexa Bliss.

Grade

B-

Analysis

This was a great, energetic way to start the show off. The program has been very good to this point, and the addition of Carmella and Bliss led to a match that NXT easily could have saved for the next live special. Instead, it made for some fun television.

The two teams have some stellar chemistry between the ropes, and the crowd loves the babyfaces, including Carmella, who was outstanding here.

The win catapults Amore and Big Cass back into title contention, setting them up for what should be a great moment when they finally capture the championships from Blake and Murphy.

Charlotte vs. KC Cassidy

2 of 3

Charlotte returned to the squared circle Wednesday, her ongoing rivalry with newcomer Dana Brooke the talk of the contest.

Her opponent was rookie KC Cassidy, a new recruit to the developmental territory.

Charlotte completely outclassed her inexperienced opponent, finishing her with a brutal spear and the Figure Eight for the submission win in three minutes of action.

Result

Charlotte defeated KC Cassidy.

Grade

D

Analysis

This was what it was: a showcase for Charlotte, who has not appeared as regularly on television over the last few weeks.

The feud with Dana Brooke is one management is clearly banking on to help get the newbie over. Charlotte has been as consistent an in-ring performer in the Divas division as anyone of late, so she is an excellent candidate for the role.

Cassidy sold the spear to perfection and never looked out of place against her opponent.

Non-Title Match: Samoa Joe vs. Kevin Owens

3 of 3

The simmering rivalry between Samoa Joe and Kevin Owens intensified into a full-on boil Wednesday night as they met in the main event.

Joe dominated the early portion of the match, not affording Owens the opportunity to stall as he typically does. A big boot to the face sent the champion scurrying.

A missed charge into the corner led to a cannonball from Owens and a headlock that threatened to derail the entire bout.

Joe mounted a comeback, but the fight spilled to the outside. Owens set his opponent up for the powerbomb into the ring apron, but the referee found himself sandwiched in between the competitors, leading to a disqualification after 15 minutes of action.

After the match, Joe and Owens engaged in a pull-apart brawl to end the show.

Result

Kevin Owens and Samoa Joe fought to a disqualification.

Grade

C

Analysis

As a match, this was another disappointing showing for Joe, and the crowd's enthusiasm reflected as much. The fans were quiet, and the never-ending headlock midway through took them out of the contest.

The brawl at the end of the match helped recreate interest, but those expecting some sort of epic encounter had to be terribly disappointed.

The contest was likely the first chapter of a longer story, but for now, it was hardly the introduction fans would have preferred from two workers of such sparkling reputations.
