Neymar Extension Looming
Monday, June 15
Barcelona and Neymar have ironed out all but the final details of a contract extension that would keep the Brazil international at the club until 2020, according to the latest reports from Spain.
Sport's Tomas Andreu reports the deal wasn't signed before the 2015 Copa America due to the hectic end of the season for the Blaugrana, but the extension worth €12 million per year will be made official after the tournament:
"The frenetic end to Barca's season has hampered attempts to extend Neymar's contract and to give the Brazilian a pay rise. Most of the deal has been sorted out for months, with only small details left to figure out, which will be done under the supervision of the future board. In principal, therefore, in August it is possible that Neymar will be photographed signing a contract extension with Barcelona until 2020.
"
Its is unclear how high Neymar's release clause will become when the deal is signed, but per Andreu, it appears the clause will mirror that of Lionel Messi, set at €250 million.
The 23-year-old enjoyed a fantastic second season with the Blaugrana, playing a pivotal role for the squad that won the treble. He scored 42 goals across all competitions, per WhoScored.com, and found an incredible understanding with his two partners up front, Messi and Luis Suarez.

His success carried over to the international stage, where he was brilliant for Brazil against Peru in their first match of the Copa America. Neymar scored his 44th goal for the Selecao in that match, and per Sport Witness, he's on pace to obliterate all of his nation's scoring records:
Neymar is the face of South American football and the youngest of Barcelona's star trio up front, so it only makes sense the Catalans would want to hand him a new, long-term deal. Keeping the Brazilian at the club is vital, as foreign clubs will undoubtedly want to break up the attacking trident as soon as possible.
Such a scenario appears unlikely, however, and with Neymar set to commit his future to the Blaugrana, fans can start preparing for another season filled with silverware.
