Sheamus Wins 2015 WWE Money in the Bank Match
Sheamus shocked the WWE Universe Sunday to open the 2015 iteration of Money in the Bank by pulling down the briefcase, besting an elite list of superstars in the epic ladder match.
With Seth Rollins' epic cash-in at Wrestle Mania fresh on the mind, Sheamus becomes the most dangerous man in the WWE after besting Dolph Ziggler, Neville, Roman Reigns, Randy Orton, Kofi Kingston and Kane to secure a guaranteed title match whenever he chooses.
WWE captured Sheamus after he stole the briefcase:
The resume of the superstars involved speaks for itself and makes Sheamus' accomplishment all the more impressive. WWE broadcaster Kyle Edwards provided the eye-popping numbers of those involved:
"Superstars in this match have competed in past @WWE #MITB ladder matches a total 20 times.
— Kyle Edwards (@KyleEdwardsWWE) June 15, 2015"
By now, fans know the impressive pedigree of each contestant involved in the match, although three of the cash-ins put on by those involved are worth a mention—Kane's cash-in on Rey Mysterio at Money in the Bank in 2010, Dolph Ziggler's cash-in on Albert Del Rio at the 2011 SummerSlam and Randy Orton's 2013 SummerSlam triumph against Daniel Bryan with some help from Triple H.
All men were in top form to start Sunday's pay-per-view off right.
Each contestant got a fair shake at the briefcase, with Kofi Kingston putting on an early show against Neville, although the former eventually took a wicked powerbomb on an elevated ladder by Roman Reigns—then had Neville come down on top of him via the same maneuver.
Ellis Mbeh captured the maneuver:
Actor Markell Bailey joked about Kingston's exit:
Neville's exit didn't look like it felt any better, though, not with Randy Orton throwing him off the top of the ladder for a thunderous RKO.
WWE Universe provided the goods:
As everyone could have expected, the rest of The New Day—Big E and Xavier Woods—interfered to help Kofi Kingston. Roman Reigns was having none of that and cleaned house:
Just when it looked like Roman Reigns would pull in the briefcase and set up an epic game of chess with Seth Rollins, Bray Wyatt interfered to cost him his title shot:
After, Sheamus didn't have any problems ascending the ladder and seizing the coveted briefcase. Edwards captured the history Sheamus made in the process:
"For the first time ever, the briefcase takes a trip across the pond - Sheamus is your first Irish @WWE #MITB contract winner.
— Kyle Edwards (@KyleEdwardsWWE) June 15, 2015"
It's not all bad for the losers. For Neville, the ladder match was the latest example that he's one of the top attractions in the promotion moving forward. Ditto for the rejuvenated Kofi Kingston as part of The New Day.
There's no reason to think Dolph Ziggler and Randy Orton will leave the title scene anytime soon, either, and now fans get to see a Roman Reigns-Bray Wyatt feud in the background as Seth Rollins looks to play keep-away for another extended period of time.
As far as pay-per-views go, Battleground comes at fans in July, where Seth Rollins will need to keep his head on a swivel with a Money in the Bank briefcase floating around in Sheamus' hands—the Celtic Warrior may not be so inclined to wait until WrestleMania to strike.
