Fear Not Seminoles: BYU Is Still No Match

Daniel BrommerSep 6, 2009

After the disappointing loss suffered by the hands of the BYU squad, Oklahoma will probably still be in shock for at least another month or so. Not quite the start for one of the favorites to get back to the National Championship, not exactly the start to Heisman winner and hopeful Sam Bradford, who left early in the second quarter with a shoulder injury.

Immediately fans have to wonder, how good is this BYU team? Not to downplay their game last night, but Oklahoma did have four brand new starters on the offensive line, a quarterback with hardly any experience and what appeared to be an awful game plan.

Maybe the real question should be, how good was this Oklahoma team really? Given the fact that Jermaine Gresham didn't play and with Bradford going down there chances were a little limited, but even a powerhouse can persevere can't they?

Granted Bradford was 10-14 for 96 yards and a touchdown, he was rushed on almost every throw. Landry Jones on the other hand was 6-12 for 51 yards. Not exactly a prize performance, but it was his first game.

What appeared to be a ferocious defensive front from the Cougars, was it just the new revamped offensive line for the Sooners that made them look so bad?

Which brings me to my next point, should Florida State be worried about this defensive front? Absolutely not.

The Seminoles bring an abundance of experience to their offensive front, with not a single senior starter. Last year they were the youngest line in the country and showed plenty of improvement from the year prior.

So when the Noles travel to BYU on September 19, they still have the upper hand. They experience across the board and a defense that defensive coordinator Mickey Andrews calls his fastest defense ever. Will that be too much for BYU to handle?

It remains to be seen how improved the passing game and the rushing game for the Noles is, but with the match-up against Miami coming on Labor Day, we're soon to find out.

BYU outplayed and outcoached Oklahoma, and I'm saying that even considering the fact that Bradford went down.

Bronco Mendenhall is a riser in the coaching ranks. He's been consistent and with the win over Oklahoma, he has his program thinking big things.

Bobby Bowden has his squad thinking bigger and better things as well and when these two teams meet in a couple weeks, we as fans are in for a real treat.
