"Wolfsburg are ready to sell Manchester City target Kevin De Bruyne—but only for £50 million," reported David Maddock of the Mirror, who suggested the player's failure to ink a new contract could see him depart.
De Bruyne confessed he "will have to think about it" should a club stump up Wolfsburg's asking price, per the Daily Mail on Aug. 3.
Further comments from the player were provided by the Sun's Martin Blackburn (h/t Charles Perrin of the Express):
"Of course you can't ignore it (interest from major clubs). Everyone knows the teams. They all play for the title. That is not nothing. But at this moment I have not heard that there is a bid for me. If an offer does come, I will hear about it and how much it is—but I have not yet heard anything.

Despite this, Wolfsburg sporting director Klaus Allofs warned City it isn't pivotal they cash in on their prized asset, per Adrian Kajumba of the Mirror on July 27.

Hecking Expects De Bruyne Stay Despite PSG Talks
Saturday, July 18
Manager Dieter Hecking previously told Sky Sports he expects the former Chelsea player "will stay for a minimum one more year," despite the fact De Bruyne held talks with PSG in early July, per Sami Mokbel of MailOnline.
The mega-money pursuit of De Bruyne shows how significantly his value has risen since Wolfsburg signed him from Chelsea in January 2014 for a fee of £18 million.
With the 24-year-old pulling their strings in attacking midfield, Wolfsburg enjoyed a rampant rise up the Bundesliga, finishing second to Bayern Munich and claiming glory in the DFB-Pokal final over Borussia Dortmund.
In 34 Bundesliga games last season, De Bruyne scored 10 goals and had a hand in setting up another 21, according to Transfermarkt, almost averaging a direct hand in one goal per appearance.
The fight for his signature remains fierce, but it appears City are close to winning it.
