From Sessions to Laimbeer: Signs David Kahn Knows Exactly What He's Doing

Ethan WeiserSep 5, 2009

David Kahn replaced Kevin McHale as head of basketball operations for the Minnesota Timberwolves this summer.

He drafted two of the most promising point guards in the draft.

He eliminated the do-nothings, and over-hopefuls from the Wolves.

He found a way to fix the Rubio two year waiting period issue, and signed Ramon Sessions.

He hired a coaching staff loaded to the fingertips.

He knows exactly what he's doing.

Yesterday, the Timberwolves signed Ramon Sessions to an offer sheet the Milwaukee Bucks are expected won't match. A combo guard, who can step out and play the two guard is exactly what we need.

Sessions will probably start, and it will probably be at the two guard. This way, Flynn will also be able to start, and the Wolves will begin their era of running a double point guard offense before Rubio could be acquired in 2011.

Here's a good look at the new young team the Wolves have now:

C-Al Jefferson/Ryan Hollins

PF-Kevin Love/Oleksiy Pecherov

SF-Ryan Gomes/Corey Brewer

SG-Ramon Sessions/Wayne Ellington

PG-Jonny Flynn/Bobby Brown

With the possibility of Rodney Carney still resigning.

It looks like a successful team could be possible, but the new coaching staff makes the dream even closer to a reality.

Kurt Rambis gave up the possibility of becoming the Lakers new head coach, and decided to become the Wolves new head coach. Serving under Phil Jackson for years, and playing in the NBA for many years gives the Wolves the experience they've been needing in a head coach ever since firing Flip several years ago.

And now we also have found the WNBA's top head coach, (Bill Laimbeer) in our laps, along with hometown favorite J.B. Bickerstaff, former Sacramento head coach Reggie Theus, and Celtics assistant GM Dave Wohl.

No developing young team in the NBA has a coaching staff quite like this one, and now that the Wolves have a centered goal in mind, they feel like a team to be watching out for.

Think of one gap that the Wolves had last year that they didn't fill this year.

Bad coach? Kahn brought in some of the best.

No real point guard? Try two. Sessions and Flynn in the backcourt.

Lack of skill? Kahn cleared out the crap, only kept the best, and found some new talent to add to the T-Wolves.

Bad GM? Kahn has impressed many so far, but the thing that impresses me, is that for every little problem that is thrown the Wolves' way, it seems like David Kahn knows exactly what he's doing.
