WWE Money in the Bank 2015: Most Intriguing Storylines to Track on Road to PPV

Aaron BowerJun 3, 2015

With the annual ladder match taking centre stage, Money in the Bank is often a pay-per-view that provides plenty in the way of drama.

And given how it is just two weeks removed from Elimination Chamber, there is plenty going on in terms of fallout and storylines as we head toward Money in the Bank.

There are still matches to be locked in with just a few shows remaining until June 14, and all the participants in the traditional ladder match have yet to be revealed.

With stars looking to make their mark ahead of the pay-per-view, there is much to follow in the way of intriguing storylines.

Here is a selection of the best.

The New Day's Next Valid Challengers

1 of 5

Following Monday's Raw, it's become a tad unclear as to who exactly is in the box seat for a shot at the WWE Tag Team Championships at Money in the Bank.

Even if SmackDown does bring about some level of clarity in terms of the No. 1 contenders, that doesn't mean it's impossible for more teams to be added to the mix.

There are quite a few teams sitting just beneath The New Day who all probably have a good, solid claim to a spot in any title match at the pay-per-view.

Cesaro and Tyson Kidd may have one too many losses to their names of late, but they are still a supremely popular team in the eyes of WWE fans. Then there are The Prime Time Players, who were the last team standing before being toppled by The New Day at Elimination Chamber.

Throw in others like Erick Rowan and Luke Harper, The Lucha Dragons and more, and you could realistically be looking at yet another match on pay-per-view for The New Day with multiple challengers.

Kevin Owens' Red-Hot Momentum

2 of 5

It's pretty much impossible to have missed Kevin Owens' presence on WWE TV lately.

His explosive debut was shocking enough, but after he followed that up with a win against John Cena at Elimination Chamber, Owens has confirmed to everyone that he's destined to be a star on the main roster.

And with only two weeks between that win and Money in the Bank, there's every chance Owens will have no time to see his stock fall. In fact, expect it to simply grow and grow.

Owens was announced to be holding an NXT Championship Open Challenge on the forthcoming edition of SmackDown, so expect some comprehensive victories there to only further keep his momentum strong.

The segments involving himself and Cena have been magnificent, with Owens' promo work acting as a real strong point. If he keeps that up, Owens vs. Cena II has all the hallmarks of another classic.

How Randy Orton Finds Some Relevance

3 of 5

Given how he wasn't involved at all at Elimination Chamber, Randy Orton finds himself somewhat in limbo at the moment.

Dean Ambrose is now the forefront target for The Authority given his rapid push into the WWE World Heavyweight Championship picture, and that has left Orton scratching around further down the queue.

He's since been announced for the Money in the Bank ladder match, and it's important that he finds some form of momentum heading into that match.

How Orton does that will be interesting to see. For the last year or so, whether it's as an ally or foe, Orton has been directly involved with The Authority's storylines in one way or another.

Without it now breathing down his neck, Orton needs a new direction.

Dean Ambrose's Unpredictability

4 of 5

He's the form horse in WWE right now, and when it comes to Dean Ambrose, you simply never know what is going to happen next.

That, in essence, is why he's become so popular. No two shows are the same when it comes to Ambrose's behaviour and actions, and you never know what you're in store for.

Ambrose is still in possession of the WWE World Heavyweight Championship at the moment, with Seth Rollins frantically trying to claim back the belt that is rightfully his ahead of Money in the Bank.

Although the finish at Elimination Chamber was a bit messy, what it has allowed for is Ambrose to go off on a tangent with some unpredictable behaviour, which will undoubtedly improve his popularity with WWE fans.

His previous feud with Rollins when they were both in the midcard last year had some hilarious and unpredictable moments, so hopefully the same will happen again here.

The Remaining MITB Contenders

5 of 5

The first six participants in the annual Money in the Bank ladder match were announced at Elimination Chamber, but Michael Cole was quick to point out that there are more to come.

Six has always felt like the perfect amount for a match of this type, so WWE will have to be careful with how many more people it adds.

But what you can guarantee is that there will be some more talent inserted that is bound to give the match a shot in the arm. How and when those participants are picked is still up in the air, but with very few TV shows left until Money in the Bank, they won't be unannounced for too long.

If we're handpicking candidates, now would be the time to give someone like Bray Wyatt a spot in the match and a shot at claiming the Money in the Bank briefcase.
