WWE Elimination Chamber 2015: Biggest Talking Points Following Major Event

Aaron BowerJun 1, 2015

WWE's Elimination Chamber pay-per-view was a night full of surprises.

There were twists and shocks in several of the high-profile matches, and although a couple of the bouts suffered in terms of fluidity, it was a generally successful show.

Some unexpected results left fans with plenty to talk about following the event, with some compelling storylines either set up or developed at Elimination Chamber.

The following is a look at the biggest talking points for fans heading out of Elimination Chamber.

The New Day Continue to Grow

1 of 5

The opening match of the night featured an enthralling and, at times, exciting Elimination Chamber contest for the WWE Tag Team Championships.

There were interesting stories throughout, not least the fact the Prime Time Players got some decent ring time as they bid to win the belts for the first time.

And it was when they were down to the final two teams alongside the New Day when the match really seemed to get going.

The defending champions picked up another win to retain their titles, and it was nice to see them do it in a way in which they effectively didn't cheat.

They continue to grow as a strong team, and their possible alliance with the Authority will help their development no end.

A Glance to Money in the Bank

2 of 5

Midway through the show, we were given a glance toward the next pay-per-view WWE are putting on, Money in the Bank.

John Cena against Kevin Owens was announced, as were the first six competitors for the show's eponymous ladder match.

Michael Cole insisted there were more performers to be announced, which could've been a nod toward Dean Ambrose's name eventually being thrown into the ring.

But the initial lineup looks good. Kofi Kingston is something of a staple in these matches, and it comes as no surprise he's involved, but it's good to see Neville in the mix too.

He picked up yet another win on pay-per-view when he defeated Bo Dallas on Sunday, and he should add some real drama to the match.

Throw in major star talent in Roman Reigns and Randy Orton, and you have a match that looks incredibly intriguing.

The Big Guy Claims the Gold at Last

3 of 5

As mentioned right at the start of this slideshow, there were more than a few twists and shocks at Elimination Chamber.

Ryback's dramatic victory inside the chamber, scoring a pinfall win against Sheamus, was definitely one of them.

Sheamus was perhaps the overwhelming favorite to win the Intercontinental Championship, so having Ryback get the win ranks as a major shock.

Ryback is a guy who has put in a lot of work in the middle of the card in recent years, so to give him a run with a major title is perhaps no less than he deserves.

You would assume that Sheamus will be his likely opponent in the immediate future, although there are a number of options the WWE can go with to test the Big Guy.

An Exciting but Sloppy Finish

4 of 5

We were all teased a momentous moment at the end of Elimination Chamber, when we all thought Dean Ambrose had won the big one.

However, the WWE had one last twist up its sleeve and gave Seth Rollins the privilege of remaining champion as a result of a disqualification.

It felt a little confusing as a finish. An Ambrose win would have given fans a major success story for one of their own, while a Rollins victory in suspicious and controversial circumstances would have piled the heat on the champion.

The one upshot is that it keeps Ambrose looking strong moving forward, and he now has two pinfall victories over Rollins to his name in recent weeks.

But a somewhat sloppy finish felt out of place here, especially after Ambrose was being teased as the new WWE World Heavyweight champion.

Fight, Owens! Fight!

5 of 5

Without doubt the biggest upset and most shocking moment of the night came in the middle of the card.

Sure, Kevin Owens had dropped John Cena on two consecutive weeks on Raw to set up their match at Elimination Chamber nicely, but his winning here was completely unexpected.

Even a controversial Owens win seemed out of the question, so for the NXT Champion to go over clean on John Cena does indeed rank as one of the biggest upsets in recent years.

What happens next with Owens and Cena is interesting. They're already slated to go at it again at Money in the Bank, but will Owens now become more and more of a presence on the main roster following this win?

It's also a surefire indicator that the company are big on both Owens and NXT.
