AT&T Byron Nelson 2015: Leaderboard Scores and Highlights from Saturday

Adam WellsMay 30, 2015

As was the case on Friday, bad weather in Texas did force another delay of the AT&T Byron Nelson. The good news is players didn't have to wait quite as long even though a select few had to complete their second round before moving day officially got started.

Despite the rainy weather at the TPC Four Seasons Resort, players haven't had any problems putting up low scores through 54 holes. The 14th hole remained shortened because the rain left it in such a poor state, taking it from a par four to three and making even par for the round a 69.

The grounds crew has had their hands full all weekend and done the best they can to make the course playable. Steven Bowditch has been atop the leaderboard or tied for the lead since Thursday and is seeking his second career PGA Tour win.

Here's how Bowditch and the rest of the field fared on Saturday.

The big winner on Saturday was Dustin Johnson, who started outside the top 25 and ended up in the top three thanks to a bogey-free seven-under 62. The American star has been inconsistent this season, though he does have one win at the WGC-Cadillac Championship in March.

Johnson is locked in heading into Sunday, as this approach shot on No. 18 shows, via PGA Tour on Twitter:

Given all of his problems off the course, seeing Johnson able to hit shots like that and have five top-10 finishes in his previous 11 events speaks to the raw talent he has. He's still prone to erratic rounds, but three straight days under par this week suggest his game is on point right now.

Per Jimmy Burch of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, Johnson's round equaled the lowest of the tournament to this point:

Another player who made a move with a terrific round was Jonathan Randolph, who has come out of nowhere to put himself in contention on Sunday.

The 26-year-old is ranked 268th in the world and has made just six of 16 cuts so far this season, but that hasn't slowed him down in Irving, Texas. His big move started on the seventh hole with an eagle and ended with this birdie on No. 12, via PGA Tour:

Randolph's day would end on a down note, hitting a double bogey on the 18th hole to finish at 11 under par. It was the one sour moment in a two-day span that saw the Mississippi native in contention for a title.

One player who wasn't able to capitalize on a strong second round was Jordan Spieth. The 2015 Masters champion didn't have a bad round, but he needed to make a move after shooting 64 on Friday. Instead, he was mostly steady with a one-under 68 to sit above the middle of the pack.

Spieth said after his performance in the second round that there were going to be low scores on Saturday and he needed to make a move, via Bill Nichols of the Dallas Morning News.

“For me, I just need to go out tomorrow and shoot a round like I did today, really zero in on the targets and see if I can get some mid range putts to go," Spieth said. "The 65s, 64s are out there tomorrow in a big day. Certainly a moving day.”

Instead of moving, Spieth sat almost exactly where he was after Friday. He did provide the crowd in attendance with entertainment late, as he birdied No. 16 and followed that up with a near hole-in-one on 17, via PGA Tour:

Spieth needed his putter working better in the round to capitalize on opportunities like that. He didn't even turn that shot into a birdie, settling for par. That was the story of his day and what will end up costing him a shot at victory.

Everyone is still looking up at Bowditch. The Australian star continues to roll after a solid 65 to take a two-shot lead into the final round. He hasn't won on the PGA Tour since March 2014, so this is certainly uncharted terrain for the 31-year-old.

There's certainly company behind Bowditch, as five players moved to 11-under par and three others are 10-under par. Bowditch will have to earn this victory on Sunday with so much traffic in his rearview mirror. It's an eclectic field playing on a water-logged surface, so anything can happen.
