American Oaks 2015 Results: Finishing Order, Times and Prize Money Payouts

Mike ChiariMay 30, 2015

Spanish Queen entered Saturday's American Oaks as the favorite to win at Santa Anita Park, and the three-year-old filly didn't disappoint as she came through in the 14th running of the race.

Feathered was seemingly in position to take the $400,000 Grade I event, but the Richard Baltas-trained Spanish Queen had too much left in reserve as she managed to chase her competition down with jockey Brice Blanc aboard.

Here is a breakdown of the payouts for Spanish Queen, Feathered and third-place finisher Consumer Credit:

According to Steve Andersen of Daily Racing Form, the California-bred Spanish Queen has been nearly perfect over the course of her young racing career:

Jeremy Balan of BloodHorse.com remarked that Spanish Queen appears to be a rapidly improving horse:

Although it was a competitive field, most expected Spanish Queen to come out on top based on her short, albeit impressive, track record of success.

Her trainer didn't necessarily have 100 percent confidence, but Baltas certainly seemed to feel good about his horse's form ahead of the race, per HorseRacingNation.com:

"She's a little difficult to handle around the barn and in the stall, but she also has the will to win," Baltas said. "For a horse to win first out in a Cal-bred maiden race and a Grade II in her third start is a big deal. She came out of the race good, so we'll see how it goes for the American Oaks."

Things couldn't have gone much better for Spanish Queen and her team as she looked great throughout the race and showcased an ability to turn on the jets down the stretch.

After winning such a prestigious race, Spanish Queen has established herself as one of the top fillies in the world, and it has also significantly raised the profiles of Baltas and Blanc.

Conversely, high-profile trainer Todd Pletcher fell just short of a big win behind Feathered, but he can't afford to dwell on it with the Belmont Stakes looming.

Pletcher figures to have three chances to ruin American Pharoah's Triple Crown bid with Materiality, Carpe Diem and Madefromlucky all posing a legitimate threat.

A victory entering the Belmont would have been significant for Pletcher's psyche, but it shouldn't change the fact that he has three true contenders to take the third leg of the Triple Crown.
