NASCAR Xfinity Series at Dover 2015 Results: Winner, Standings and Reaction
There was little more than fumes left in his gas tank when he crossed the finish line, but that's all Chris Buescher needed to win a wild Buckle Up 200 Saturday at Dover International Speedway.
It marked the second win of the season for the NASCAR Xfinity Series points leader, who utilized a huge lead created through pit strategy to coast to the finish.
Here is a look at how the top 10 played out in the Buckle Up 200, with results for all 40 drivers available at NASCAR.com:
| 1 | Chris Buescher | 60 |
| 2 | Matt Kenseth | 20 |
| 3 | Regan Smith | 7 |
| 4 | Austin Dillon | 33 |
| 5 | Kasey Kahne | 88 |
| 6 | Chase Elliott | 9 |
| 7 | Brendan Gaughan | 62 |
| 8 | Ty Dillon | 3 |
| 9 | Erik Jones | 54 |
| 10 | Jeremy Clements | 51 |
Although both Darrell Wallace Jr. and Chase Elliott had their moments Saturday, the points standings continue to be a two-horse race at the top between Buescher and Ty Dillon. Buescher maintained his No. 1 positioning by virtue of his victory, but many talented drivers are in pursuit, as seen in this rundown of the standings, courtesy of NASCAR.com:
| 1 | Chris Buescher | Leader | 2 |
| 2 | Ty Dillon | -15 | 0 |
| 3 | Chase Elliott | -37 | 0 |
| 4 | Regan Smith | -47 | 0 |
| 5 | Darrell Wallace Jr. | -49 | 0 |
| 6 | Elliott Sadler | -73 | 0 |
| 7 | Brian Scott | -90 | 0 |
| 8 | Ryan Reed | -95 | 1 |
| 9 | Brendan Gaughan | -102 | 0 |
| 10 | Daniel Suarez | -103 | 0 |
Unlike last week's race at Charlotte Motor Speedway, which saw Austin Dillon essentially dominate from start to finish, the Buckle Up 200 was extremely competitive.
Wallace, Matt Kenseth and Erik Jones each led at least 50 laps, while Dillon got in on the act as well with 17 laps led in his own right.
It was a particularly special day for Jones since he was celebrating his 19th birthday, as seen in this photo, courtesy of Amy 54 Team on Twitter:
Jones seemed to be in ideal position to win his second Xfinity race of the year, but things went south in the latter stages when he had to pit. The rising star locked up his tires before pitting and was then penalized for speeding on pit road, which destroyed his chances, according to Motor Racing Network:
Jones ended up finishing ninth, and his miscue set the stage for Roush Fenway Racing teammates Buescher and Wallace to vie for the win.
Wallace was in the lead, but Buescher bumped into him with 10 laps to go, which caused the former to fall way back in the field and settle for a disappointing 17th-place result.
The only question after that related to whether Buescher had enough fuel left to finish the race. It turns out that the 22-year-old young gun still had something left in reserve, but his win may have come at a price.
Following the race, Wallace was understandably angry with the way things played out. Per Dustin Long of NBC Sports, he didn't feel any joy for his teammate's triumph:
Despite the hard feelings from Wallace's perspective, Buescher's spirits weren't dampened in the slightest following the race, as seen in this vine courtesy of Xfinity Racing:
While Wallace was potentially in position to win his first race of the season, it certainly isn't guaranteed that he could have gotten the job done, as he was well short on fuel, according to Long:
Whatever the case, Saturday's event reached an interesting conclusion, which could heat things up in the coming weeks. It is integral for teammates to work together on the track, but Wallace may not be as willing to help Buescher out after what happened in the Buckle Up 200.
When push came to shove, though, Buescher did what he had to do to win the race and solidify his spot atop the standings.
Buescher and his team had the perfect strategy, and they were able to outfox several Sprint Cup regulars, which should give them plenty of confidence moving forward.
Based on what happened Saturday, there is no question that Buescher is the favorite to win the Xfinity Series points title for the first time in his young career.
