The women's team confirmed the result through its official Twitter account:

With only a week left until Jillian Ellis' side begin their World Cup campaign in Canada, the pressure was on to ensure the team at least didn't head into the tournament on a sour note.

NBC's Jeff Kassouf showed just how meaningful this fixture was to the Red Bull Arena crowd in particular, with more than 25,000 showing up to send the U.S. off in style:

Despite the climactic feeling of the tie, there wasn't a lot on the pitch to suggest these two sides were willing to take much in terms of risk so close to a major international tournament.

Former United States international Alexi Lalas may have been left slightly disappointed in his hopes to see positive, controlled football, outlining the lack of necessity to play an anchored midfielder:

What ensued, however, was a first half replete with half-chances and whispers at goal but sadly no bellowing cries or aching passion to make a real impact in New Jersey.

Jeff Carlisle of ESPN noted the United States may have been able to make a dent had they taken a more proactive approach at set pieces:

That was just one aspect of play letting Ellis' women down, though, and the South Korean visitors may have been left feeling far more content with their ability to keep the hosts at bay.

Per ESPN's Paul Carr, the USWNT were up in terms of attacking territory and possession at the half-time interval, but neither team had managed to register even a single shot on target:

Due to the low-stakes nature of their meeting, both Ellis and the United States could perhaps be pleased to get a performance like this out of their systems, alerting them of their need to be more urgent in possession.

Not for lack of trying, the home side did come agonisingly close to scoring on more than one occasion, with Sydney Leroux one of those coming close to breaking the deadlock:

But alas, the Western New York Flash forward couldn't make the desired impact and was forced to settle with a stalemate, a result carrying its own share of positive notes worth gleaning.

It wasn't until the last few phases of the game that U.S. goalkeeper Hope Solo was really called into action, making an impressive save to her left and keeping the South Koreans at bay.

Ellis will still be painfully aware of the deficiencies that blighted her side against South Korea, especially with just over a week left until her side's Women's World Cup opener on June 8.

The United States take on Australia in that fixture, with the tests of Sweden and Nigeria to come on June 12 and June 16, respectively, each of which are likely to be more difficult outings than this.

The team have next to no time to correct any wrongs that stuck out on Saturday, while South Korea may look toward their Canadian expedition with slightly brighter prospects now in view.
