The Heat's official Twitter account provided some updates on Chalmers' condition Friday:
Chalmers averaged 10.2 points and 3.8 assists per game this season and was a critical part of the Miami teams that went to four consecutive NBA Finals before the 2014-15 campaign.
Chalmers is a role player for the Heat, but they may need him to play a larger role next season if impending free agent Goran Dragic signs elsewhere and discussions with Dwyane Wade go south this offseason. Still, Chalmers openly questioned his role on the team this season, which prompted Brett Pollakoff of Pro Basketball Talk to ponder trade possibilities:
"But if there are deeper issues between Chalmers and the Heat, Miami wouldn’t have a problem finding a taker for him in trade this summer. Chalmers is a seven-year veteran point guard with championship experience, and will be entering the final year of his contract, which will have him on the books for a reasonable $4.3 million next season.
"
If Miami looked that direction this offseason, a healthy Chalmers would be a better trade asset. Assuming Chalmers does return, the Heat will still need his scoring bursts and presence for depth purposes with a roster that will be in flux this offseason.
