NHL Playoffs 2015: Viewing Information and Odds for Conference Finals Game 7s

Brian MaziqueMay 29, 2015

After a day off, the Stanley Cup playoffs will resume on Friday night when the New York Rangers host the Tampa Bay Lightning in Game 7 of the Eastern Conference Final. The Lightning squandered their opportunity to close out the Presidents' Trophy winners at home when they lost 7-3 in Game 6.

Now, the Lightning have the unenviable task of winning an all-or-nothing Game 7 on the road with a berth in the Stanley Cup Final at stake. No pressure.

On Saturday, the Western Conference representative in the Final will be decided. The Chicago Blackhawks forced a Game 7 with their 5-2 Game 6 win over the Anaheim Ducks at the United Center. The Blackhawks must win on the road to reach the finals, but they will carry the momentum after winning Game 6 in Anaheim. It's going to be a wild and fun weekend in the NHL.

Kane and Toews Together Are Tough for Anaheim to Counter

Blackhawks head coach Joel Quenneville decided to play Patrick Kane and Jonathan Toews together in Game 6 and it paid off. Kane scored a goal, but more importantly, the dynamic duo created matchup issues for the Ducks and opportunities for their teammates.

Along with Brandon Saad, the Kane and Toews line scored two goals in a huge three-goal second period in Game 6. Per Mark Potash of the Chicago Sun-Times, Saad knows he's benefiting from playing with two of the league's best.

“Those two players by themselves are so great and dominant that when you put them together it’s a pretty dynamic duo,” Saad said. “I had a lot of fun playing with them, so I’m just happy to be here. Those two led the way.”

With more Kane and Toews on the way in Game 7, Chicago should like their chances—even on the road.

Lundqvist Needs a Vintage Performance

The Rangers would love to see a performance from Henrik Lundqvist like the one they received in Game 1 and 4 of the series. With help from his teammates, Lundqvist held the powerful Lightning offense to just one goal in both of those games.

Lundqvist managed a combined 61 saves in those contests and the Rangers won both times.

Game 7s are the moments when big-time goalies like Lundqvist are supposed to earn their money. That hasn't always been the case with Lundqvist as he has been inconsistent all series and struggled against the Washington Capitals during the conference semifinals.

Having finished as the runners-up in last year's Stanley Cup Final, Rangers fans are hoping the team will again reach the final series.

If the Rangers are to accomplish their goals, Lundqvist must play big.
