Timothy RappMay 28, 2015

The PGA Tour headed to the TPC Four Seasons Resort in Irving, Texas, on Thursday as the AT&T Byron Nelson got underway. Some of golf's biggest names hit the course in an effort to grab their share of the 500 FedExCup Points on the line and the $1.278 million winning share.

Below, we'll break down Thursday's leaderboard and recap the day's action and top highlights.

Recap

Steven Bowditch raced out to an early lead during the first round of the AT&T Byron Nelson, shooting an impressive eight-under 62 to march out to an early two-stroke lead. Jimmy Walker finished the day six-under, while James Hahn and Ryan Palmer find themselves three strokes back.

PGA Tour on Twitter passed along some of the key stats from Bowditch's impressive round:

Bowditch seems to enjoy playing in Texas after winning the Valero Texas Open last year.

Jordan Spieth, on the other hand, finished with a solid if unspectacular one-under 69. After his round concluded, he was pretty blunt about his performance.

"Not a whole lot you can do with only two birdies in the round," he told Will Gray of GolfChannel.com.

Still, he wasn't too hard on himself, per Jason Sobel of ESPN:

He also provided one of the highlights of the day with this approach at the 10th.

He wasn't the only player who left jaws dropped with impressive shots throughout the day. John Merrick dazzled with this 43-foot putt at No. 6.

And Ken Duke, who impressed at three-under for the day, made this pretty birdie at the 18th.

But on Thursday, it was all about Bowditch, who was absolutely on fire. Maintaining that form will be no easy task, of course, and with a slew of talented players nipping at his heels, Bowditch will need to remain composed to take his lead into the weekend.

All eyes will remain fixated on Spieth, meanwhile, the game's bright young superstar who will be expected to improve upon his one-under from Thursday. He may not be able to catch Bowditch and the top of the leaderboard in a day, but expect Spieth to put himself within striking distance heading into the weekend.
