Usain Bolt at Golden Spike 2015: Race Results, Times and Twitter Reaction
Usain Bolt easily beat out the field to win the 200 meters at the 2015 Golden Spike in Ostrava, Czech Republic, Tuesday, finishing in 20.13 seconds on a wet and slippery track.
Flo Track shared the final results for all of the runners:
Bolt was the main attraction of the 2015 Golden Spike but was forced to sit through a rainy day, as the 200-meter final was the last event of the day.
The Daily Telegraph's Ben Bloom kept us updated on how the star sprinter was doing:
The crowd couldn't care less about the conditions, giving the Jamaican star a massive ovation when the lineup for the 200 meters was announced.
Starting from Lane 5, Bolt had a solid start and was already in the lead before the end of the bend. Isiah Young gained some ground in the first section of the homestretch, but Bolt kicked into gear and easily took the win.
The Jamaican appeared to be disappointed with his time, but IAAF's Jon Mulkeen thought he ran well given the circumstances:
ESPN.com's Chris Chavez noted it was one of Bolt's worst winning times in recent history, however:
As shared by Jamaica Gleaner, the winner admitted it was a difficult race:
NBC Sports' Nick Zaccardi couldn't help but feel bad for Bolt, who was forced to answer the same question over and over again in Ostrava:
Here's the full post-race interview:
Bolt's physique looked remarkably sharp this early in the season, but the Jamaican did look a little rusty coming out of the bend. The man himself admitted he needs to run himself into shape, and Tuesday's performance wasn't a bad way to start.
The 28-year-old six-time Olympic gold medalist remains the most feared sprinter in the world, and fans probably would have hoped to see him go head-to-head with Asafa Powell, who easily won the 100 meters Tuesday. As shared by Jamaica Gleaner's Andre D. Lowe, Powell is still undefeated over that distance this season:
Canadian sprinter Michael LeBlanc called out the two, hoping they will meet at some point during the 2015 season:
Both men ran well given the low temperatures and slippery state of the track, an early indication Bolt and Powell will once again be in fine form in 2015.
Bolt didn't meet any of his top competitors for this year's world championships, with Justin Gatlin competing in the United States this week. Per Zaccardi, the Jamaican's biggest rival has already dipped under 20 seconds several times this season.
Given the state of the track in Ostrava, however, Bolt will take plenty of positives from this race, as he starts getting in shape for the world championships in August.
